- Multiple skill exchanges (like 100+) results in negligible damage (<20%) but suddenly one skill hits for 30% damage. Again, it meets the need of the plot, but is super inconsistent.
All this is fine if the author kept game mechanic descriptions vague but these explanations go on and on throughout the novel. If you wanted to make such a big deal of the mechanics, then at least keep it straight. Or you've just wasted many chapters explaining game "rules" just to break them as you please. EDIT: At ch1500 and the missteps are getting more glaring. Like MC fighting a gunner/landmine character in a manor using a blade? Even the s*upidest idea is to use summons (available to the MC) to set off all the traps and flush out the opponent rather than an all-in charge. Another "plot needs MC to die this round" so make him do something s*upid to fit what needs to happen. Skipping most of the fight scenes now because it is becoming clear that author is trying to end the book but had to somehow un-OP and s*upidify the MC to make some kind of drama. A glaring example is going into the 1:1 battle with depleted health when MC had ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD to heal himself since the opponent was simply waiting. The author is in a big bind because the MC can simply heal/recover mana and fight - but then all the drama would be lost because it would be MC heals, kites, kills, rinse and repeat. Since there is a mana recovery skill with 10 minute cooldown that MC can also spam given none of his opponents rush him. So now it is silly time - all battles with MC are described with the most dramatic but idiot tactic. <<less
