Rise of Humanity

In the world birthed by Pangu, the Three Sovereigns lit the spark of humanity that the Five Emperors would later fan into a blazing fire, eternally branding humanity as the leaders of the world….

This was a time where twilight had descended on the reign of the Human Sovereign and the Five Emperors had yet to emerge – humanity was merely one of the myriad races wandering about the vast cosmos.

This was a desolate and barren era. The monsters, devils, heavenly gods, and deities of all races stood aloft; with the demons, heavenly souls, and spirits dancing freely around the world.

The humans were still a feeble and burgeoning race, often taken as livestock and offered as sacrifices to the pantheon of races that ruled the world together from within the great wilderness.

This was not the era of the Foreworld, but the barbaric and untamed era of uncivilization!

Let us rewind back to China’s ancient and classical mythology and recount the legendary tale of how a single figure led humanity out of an epoch of darkness and into a new dawn.

Please sit back, relax and enjoy the (Rise of Humanity) !

So as of right now im on chapter 684 (the current release) this is a complicated novel because of the lack of info. Plus the countless conspiracies and the complicated cultivation system that takes more than just talent to improve in (you have to have the right mind set too) but that doesnt make it a bad read in fact it makes it all the more interesting it not something that you can understand in the first idk 27 chapter *cough cough kleklel cough cough* the MC is often in... more>> situations that have even made me the reader (that knows that chances are the MC isnt gonna die) womder if he can make it out alive and how. People have said that him not having much of a past makes him not have much of a reason to do what he does but on the contrary he has more reasom than anyone as he comes from a small village and everything he has is owed to the swords gate (and the dude in the lamp) just go and read it okay I could drone on for hours without spoilers and for days with them <<less

This one reminds me of Magus Era (and definitely not ZTJ lol). Unlike Magus Era action scenes here are so-so. That said, this one is more difficult to predict so that is a plus. The main problem with this novel is that MC somehow manages to find opponents who are very close to his level or those who are so above that they will not even kill MC themselves. In better xuanhuan/xianxia novels when MC gets stronger it shows. At some point, they are not an underdog but a powerful... more>> figure to be respected and feared, someone who can not be easily provoked. But here it seems that MC will be a constant underdog and people will needlessly provoke him and die for that. Antagonists are boring, no shred of any character's personality other being big bad evil guys. The writing style is also so-so, too many info-dumps and explanations. Cultivation and skills are a bit confusing sometimes and not properly explained, it feels like the author can just put some bs skill and say it works. If writing style and the plot was as good as ZTJ's or ISSTH's all of that would be ok... but it's not. Well, since there are several worse xianxias/xuanhuans being translated right now, I guess this can be called average.

Edit chapter 306: Though some problems remained, some also got fixed. Pacing and plot have become better and more interesting. I kinda wish I have not read Magus Era yet... these 2 novels have too many similarities. I'm rising my rating by one star.

Edit chapter 384: Action scenes have become better and plot has become more interesting. At this point, it's much better than average xianxias If I don't give this one 5 stars it would be a shame. Although it's not as good as ISSTH, CD, AW, Nine Cauldrons and some other best xianxias out there, it's still great. <<less

The story about a fool plain kid with his god like luck and plot armor, oh and also a god grandpa to guide and protect him. If a normal side character or anyone got half of his luck, they would still be much better and stronger than this MC.

The story is not bad, but the MC character design suck.

What a story! Reimagining Chinese myths into a novel world comparable to Tolkein. Did not read the English translation however, always get disappointed to how translators convey special phrases. Read the source directly, and was astounded to find how the author wove ancient Chinese myths and legends and gave a retelling of it, as well as giving a 'fake' account of World History. The author did his research definitely, and I could see this becoming a good action series (if the producers do not f*** it up). Gonna scrutinise the... more>> details from chapter one again! <<less

Agree that this is not typical novel with op MC. MC running with his tail between his legs most of the time.

MC potrayed as a hope for the rise of humanity. But I dont see any affection interaction between MC WITH other human, even with the so called zhongshan clan. so MC background is basically bullshit.

some plots are ridiculous and shortsighted, like the arc of competition in the celestial being. where ... more>>

everyone said that MC must win, no matter the costs. even if he takes the risk of being an idiot by reverse awakening, or shows the celestial race that he did the reverse awakening successfully and may really threaten em in the future. really? even his schoolmaster is that dumb? sigh... MC act always put a big fat target mark in his face to keep the story going...

I lost interest after read this for a while...

But maybe I just too familiar with the plot... the one where everyone really wanna kill the MC BUT keep sending pawn fodders to give MC level up, which also drag the story til u bored to death. <<less

I've completely changed my view on this after reading the authors other work and liking it, and then coming back to this. Originally I gave it one star, but that's upped to four. Don't get me wrong, the beginning still isn't great, but if you stick with it this is good stuff.

It's a good novel to read to waste time, I do notice some few things where I doubt some reader might have not notice first I think the author of this novel might be, just maybe, might a little bit (important thing must be mentioned 3 times) a misogynist (women hater) or a person who has little inter action with women what so ever below are some few spoilers I read about MC relationship towards women in this novel (base on 100+ chapters so far)

Spoiler

Notice that girl MC save which was possess later by a female demon, MC walk towards the girl dormitory pass by a lake where a couple of girls bathing and MC reaction was like "meh =/" the girl that got possess was dead MC want revenge but the girl was just to powerful and again MC was like revenge later what so ever lol.

All enemies that are female meet tragic death towards MC when I mean tragic it is Gore X brutality and surprisingly majority of enemies so far are female.

Random girls are being called little heifer (a young female cow that has not borne a calf.)

MC relationship with girls are weird one example was their was a chapter where 4 girls from different clan offer themselves to MC so MC can marry them with benefits and MC again was like "meh =/ what ever", this happen again when MC claim a territory where 4 girls was sacrifice to MC as MC was a dragon in disguise and dragon are s*x maniac by nature and again MC was like "My cultivation prevent me from having s*x" this part I notice the strange thing.I mean why would you introduce the dragon race a s*xual maniac and make MC disguise as a dragon and yet you want to make MC virg*n forever! That alone is enough to blast his disguise away lol but since author is god the very thing that describe dragon race are being neglected by MC and note that majority of monster in this novel has dragon bloodline or half dragon and most of them have MANY wives EXCEPT for MC who is even a PURE dragon blood line. How ironic that half dragon in this novel has many wives and MC a pure dragon remain forever virg*n lol.

when MC meet a certain girl and help her the girl was called a goddess but yet was describe as a glutton when she is with MC and you think that they will have something or some relationship would happen between them, then again MC was like "meh =/" left and forget about the girl lol.

At this point of time expect no romance to happen in this novel as MC is either gay or ret*rded who has all attention focus on getting strong. The annoying part is how author introducing girls left and right making you believe that some development will happen and surprisingly will left you hanging.

The ONLY girl that might have capture MC interest was that girl with wood element with a ret*rded granny bodyguard who keep on insisting to kill other girls that is around MC so she can have MC for herself, yet their interaction is very short and won't even make a single chapter if combined!

[collapse]

Now that I think about it that is the only flaw I see from this novel, since you can expect a decent plot, the characters a quiet interesting. MC was created as how the usual weak to strong setting should be. The scheming enemies behind the background are alright.

Tones of adventures left and right, MC struggle might be OP sometimes but he still trains to get stronger. Not much abuse of PLOT armor! I would have love this novel and do 5 star a justice if the above flaw is nonexistent. But I think people who want to dominate girls, or people who have inferiority complex or misogynist will love this novel. <<less

It's a good novel. However, some parts are boring as well. For me, I find the the first hundred chapters were boring, but I kept reading because some said it would get better.

Some reviews has over exagerate things about this novel (both good and bad reviews). All I can say is that the first parts were boring, but it does gets better. The author sure took his time building up the world. After the 100 chapter mark, I did not find myself forced to click the next chapter anymore

EDIT:MY GOD this novel is f*ckING AWESOME! This is a amazing work and its buried in the tr*sh of other generic xianxia novels only because the start of this novel is really bad : (

Now it's crimial this isn't as popular as Against the Gods or ER Gen work only because of the bad start you can tell the autor have the outline of his novel all planned but he is testing everything like the classic shity elders or classic xianxia romance or even a sect traitor and its done... more>> poorly but after chapter 70 the autor found his style and the novel becames just gold.

The more you read the better it gets and when the MC matures into a man he becames one of the BEST MC I EVER READ and he is Xianxia MC, this guy is a true TROLLER he can trick people way more powerfull than him into traps or cheating them out of there items without a single punch and with NO PLOT armor.

Anyone that rate this 3 or even 4 starts like I did only read first chapters but trust me endure a little the plot of this novel is fantastic unlike other xianxias where the goal is just to reach next level in this one the MC powerlevel don't matter at all what matters is how he can save his race from being s*aves. <<less

Pretty standard stuff here.

- poor MC gets hands on a cheat. Check.

- face slapping for simply the sake of face slapping. Check.

- MC that becomes OP way to fast. Check.

It isnt a bad story dont get me wrong. But it is so average as average can be. Had some hopes about some twist that would have been possible. But it seems like it is content with being average and taking no chances.

So far a pretty solid series, It (so far) focuses on a poor yet hard working cultivator who stumbles upon a legacy in the wilderness. This spirit acts has his mentor (somewhat) in exchange for carrying him around while he looks for a pure blood member of the original god race, of which, surprise! The humans are the degenerated descendants of. Our main character's "cheats" are basically a snarky infodump spirit, and a very high ability to comprehend/visualize techniques (and eye for detail as it were). So far other than... more>> the single cultivation technique and some fairly risky advice there isn't any "OP" cheats from the spirit like in some. It has (so far) maintained a good balance between interesting strength from the MC without too much Plot armor. I'm curious to see where it goes. <<less

I quite enjoy this novel tbh. But as to what bakaleaf said about the hatred for women I'd have to disagree. To be Frank not only women everyone who ends up trying to kill the MC does a brutal death whether it is male/female.

The romance is actually coming along nice with his junior sister and as for him not running around swinging is 3rd leg everywhere if you have truly been reading the novel you'd understand he literally has no time to do any of that.

A 15/17 year old boy... more>> not some reincarnation old monster is taking on the whole world and mission to protect the human race with to very important identities and avoid the gods of that realm and has many enemies when does he have time to care about having wives?

I think your just looking into it to much and seeing as you only read 137 chapters I hope you change or edit your review when you catch up cause its misleading. <<less

The novel starts off a little slow but quickly picks up the pace and is incredibly enjoyable... until like the last 100-200 chapters. Author kind of fumbled the ending and left a TON of things unresolved. I would have rated this a 5/5 but the story took a hit near the end of the novel. This story had so much potential but so many things were left unresolved at the end. But that's probably my own subjective opinion on what a proper ending is.

As the only review here who... more>> seems to have completed the novel, I'll try to give a holistic breakdown of the novel's components:

Plot: 5/5

The story was a solid 5/5 at first, and had amazing Chinese mythology elements that enhanced the novel throughout. The plot was fast-paced and the Cultivation was incredibly well-thought-out instead of random levels put together.

Worldbuilding: 2/5

The settings and background started off really well, with a lot of exploration potential, and especially as bigger and grander worlds were introduced... except the story just speedruns right through them after some point, and the worldbuilding doesn't get much development halfway through the novel, and none near the end.

Spoiler

After the MC leaves his home planet, we're introduced to what were supposed to be massive 3000 galaxies, but the MC literally only spends time in like 3-4 planets of ONE galaxy, and then moves on to another bigger world outside of the 3000 galaxies. This new bigger world is basically where the the rest of the story happens, and by the end, everything feels so... cramped.

[collapse]

Romance: 2/5

Surprisingly the romance started off very well-developed, which is rare for xianxia, however things took a nosedive when the harem trope got involved and all the time the author spent developing the good romance at the beginning went to waste. I get that this novel isn't romance-oriented, but if you're going to spend that many chapters on building up the female lead, then don't just throw it all away for no reason.

Spoiler

The MC's main romantic interest, which the author invested a considerable amount of time into building up that relationship, got sidelined completely and not talked about except random brief mentions. She wasn't even one of the main wives anymore.

[collapse]

Overall: 4/5

Despite the flaws the story had near the end, the plot and action was enough to carry the story to a 4/5 in my eyes. The fights were well-paced and entertaining, and actually made me look forward to them, unlike other novels where it's a chore to read fight-scenes. <<less

I read this novel years ago, so I don't remember a lot of things, I'm just gonna tell you about the things I remember:

  1. awesome world building: the whole story is about saving the humanity and
... more>>
Spoiler

well, reverting their sealed status back to almighty Fuxi race

[collapse]

  1. it starts slow paced AF, so you need to be patient with it
  2. it's harem :although the harem shapes way down the story and as far as I recall girls were gathered together pretty fast it was not disturbing and had some kind of reasoning behind each relationship
  3. awesome cultivation process: it was well-thought-out with some plot twists on the way to immortality
  4. it doesn't end with that planet and there are higher leveled worlds, so proceed with caution
well I think it has one of the best story lines out there for following big spoiler reasons (pls don't read it if you haven't read until 900 or so chapters, I'm basically spoiling everything here)

Spoiler

Humans are truly in danger and most of their population are raised in literal ranches as if they are livestock, and MC is desperately trying to reverse the fate of his kind. He later on finds out the human race were called fuxi and ruled the world, and some guy cursed and sealed their powers and their bloodline. He interacts with some of his kind of dead ancestors to learn more about their past and the reasons that sealed the race. Along the way he interacts with some friends that some actually die bc MC is not some almighty OP cultivator and is similar to others has to try hard to be successful. Funny enough he gets to know ppl who are way talented than him and after a long while still can't beat them, and he needs their help but our MC fights and struggles and works hard to acquire his strength. Even his golden finger renders useless bc the ancient being is not up-to-date with the greatest and newest cultivation methods (5th and 6th rings) and he has to think of new ways to reach those stages. This plot line is already better than most of the xianxia novels I have read. Honestly, I think this novel is suffering bc of a very slow paced start. (And also the political games under the noose of that great being were kind of boring but ok)

2 stars. It doesn't show for some reason.

Notice: there are more chapters than there seem. Look for them, just don't mistake MTL for them.

A bland novel. The language is bland, making me confused if it's some edited MTL (probably not, though), which means either the author or the translator isn't living up to the task. The story itself is also quite bland. It's just the usual underdog with a spirit grandpa to teach him. The protagonist is neither good nor bad - just bland. Sure, he has smarts, he is... more>> strong, but that's it. The grandpa is slightly more interesting, but it's not him the story is about.

Other characters are bland too, just typical cultivation/wuxia character tropes walking around. None I particularly liked or was interested in, whether they be male or female, friends or foes, love interests or hostile femme fatale. Speaking of love interests, it has polygamy tag, so we'll get a harem, but any related developments were quite bland as the MC is clearly very much uninterested in such things, at least at the start.

Plot is very cliche. Name one usual trope about cultivation sects, and you'll probably find it in this novel. The events are cliche and far from interesting. The MC walks around in some neighboring areas all the time instead of resolving plotlines in his sect. He visits secret areas, inheritance sites... It's bland and boring imo.

As for setting, there's a small twist that humanity is far from the dominant faction, but that's it. There's a sh*t ton of some random Chinese mythical creatures (all those dragon chimeras like some xiang dragon, that is a hybrid of dragon and horse - no, I don't mean a horse with dragon bloodline, but literally a dragon with horse bloodline lol, and this one has tiger bloodline too). There's also some chicken dragon... Most of those dragon hybrids from Chinese mythology are ret*rded imo, and this novel capitalizes on them by having a somewhat weird cultivation system that mixes soul and typical energy (qi) cultivation) into something needlessly complicated (and, you guessed it, bland - because when there's a big mix of everything in a pot of soup, then there's no ingredient that really stands out anymore).

So, a bland novel. I don't really recommend unless you're very bored. <<less

TL;DR: Annoying novel.

This novel has a few things going for it: a different cultivation system, a interesting world with humanity as the underdogs. But most of the time the novel focuses on fighting and cultivation, the fighting is pretty much just people throwing special effects at each other and the cultivation is rarely interesting.

The main reason I'm dropping this is that the characters aren't pulling all the stops to get the spies and traitors out of the way, it just feels very irritating.

Also, the author likes to pull numbers out... more>> of his a*s, everything is hundreds of feet big, thousands of miles away and hundreds of tons heavy, very annoying. <<less

Unlike most other novels in this source rating of this is correct. Story easy to read. Language good enough and almost nothing (except math maybe) make you facepalm. Story is also good enough. Otherwise. One problem for me is fights it's boring because skills in this book is ingentical and discriminations of also them almost not change. As well as cultivation system itself leave many open questions. MC is also seems intends to be virg*n for live with beauties fall for him on each step.
