Ling Xiao was secretly in love with a girl named Mo Qi; because of an accident, they both crossed into the ancient times.

Mo Qi who was preinstalled with the Mary Sue halo, in these ancient times, walked to the summit with a golden finger.

However, Ling Xiao continued to be exploited by Mo Qi.

After he no longer had any values to exploit, he soon became a pitiful cannon fodder.

The heavens decided to take pity on Ling Xiao.

And gave Ling Xiao an opportunity for rebirth.

After rebirth, he vowed that all his enemies would repay him with a debt of blood!

However, why have all these enemies of his, fallen into the mode of cutting their heads open?

“Hey, are you really that unremarkable person who used to follow behind Mo Qi?”

“So this dance was originally danced by you, sigh……”

“You are obviously a man, yet you move me so much.”

“Enough! Since you have taken the initiative to provoke me, then you must concentrate on me!”

Ling Xiao expressed: If you want to counterattack, then counterattack. As long as your golden finger is bigger than Mo Qi’s.

But how did Mo Qi’s Mary Sue halo end up in his body! He is still a straight man who likes beauties! He definitely, definitely doesn’t want to turn bent!

Pretty great novel! The MC is amazing and I got really invested in his adventures. I agree with the other reviews in that the MC became kinda spoiled and whiny at the end, but I think it made sense - this whole novel the MC is a little bit*h to everyone except the one person he is terrified of, once he stops being as terrified of the ML of course he'd be a little bit*h to him too!

Still, the novel becomes less and less amusing and fun by the... more>> end. I really didn't like how it ended and here is why:

Spoiler

At first his relationship with the emperor is very fun. The MC is constantly lying to the Emperor, which we know is the emperor's bottom line, which makes it all a bit spicy and scary but in a fun way. The whole time the MC keeps getting himself into a lot of shit, hiding more and more stuff for the emperor, and all the while getting closer and closer to the emperor's heart... It's all a build up for the revelation of all the lies and it is great!

Yet, once the emperor finds out it sort of loses its charm?

Adding to the charm being lost, instead of any fun repercussions we just get the emperor becoming very "overbearing CEO", and suddenly the power imbalance becomes insanely annoying! This is all solved, which is good, but it still makes the emperor become such an annoying character for this part of the story.

And right when the emperor is at peak annoying, two AMAZING possible love interests show up to spice it up.

The first is Fu Junyu, who steals the MC away and then falls slowly in love with him while acting as his shifu. They have such a great relationship! They love to tease and mess with each other, and the MC can just be his real cranky self with him. Their relationship is such a stark contrast to the ML/MC relationship, and it really shows how the MC can be and act with someone he sees as an equal. Also fu junyu is just a fun character in general; he has a fun personality and he really does want to monopolise the MC but always takes into account the MC's feelings first.

And then there's Lan Wei, which was there from the start of the novel and had ALWAYS been my crack ship with the MC since they hated each other so much but in an absolutely fun way! Lan Wei is hot headed and sort of dumb but really strong and loyal to those he loves and they just CLASH SO MUCH. The MC was born to annoy him!

The whole novel they kept mutually screwing each other over, and just tormenting each other, which actually made the relationship quite fair! They were just really fun enemies and an amazing crack ship, which, surprise, wasn't crack after all! Lan Wei really fell for the MC!

Unfortunately, Lan Wei had "cuck" as a character description; he was a cuck with the person he loved before, and when he fell for the MC he became a cuck once again. He just keeps looking out for the MC, getting mad when he's unjustly treated, yadda yadda, without making any sort of move. Fortunately, even with him falling for the MC, their relationship is still really fun and they keep constantly annoying each other. Once again, someone who the MC can be his true self with, without any fear worries, which leads to a really fun dynamic.

So, taking this into account, when we go back to the emperor, with the slow burn spiciness of the first part of the novel (when one was lying to the other) which had this massive interlude with the side characters shining... Well, the ML/MC relationship is suddenly just very boring! It'd have been better to not have the interlude at all! Their dynamic is so boring in comparison to the other possible pairings. The ML also becomes boring in comparison to them!

The reveal about the emperor loving the MC in their past life too was fun - and also means all his more aggressive moves were only done after he fully believed the MC loved him - but even with this the dynamic is just not as fun as the others... All I could think about when reading their scenes was "God, when are we getting back to the secondary MLs!"

And this leads to the actual reason I didn't really like the way it ended up: at the end of the novel, the MC doesn't keep any of his friends.

He stops speaking to Fu Junyu because of his stand in court, despite him also having been his teacher? Did he even keep learning martial arts, which he loved before or...?

Lan Wei backs off once he sees the emperor really does treasure the MC, and it is implied by what he says that he will just treat him as his "title" from then on, no longer as a friend.

And last of all, even the one person he liked in the Emperor's harem, Concubine Li, is sent away. I really liked her and her maid too! They were so cute!

Honestly, I care a lot more than the MC does about him losing every friend at the end, but this is just.... So boring. All his fun relationships with who he had any sort of cool interactions with are gone, and he just kept his sole romantic relationship with, as said like 50 times before, became SO SO BORING.

[collapse]

So yeah, the thing in the spoilers is very much fully my personal taste, so if you are worried the novel has a shitty ending beyond that - - - I don't think it does? It closes thing off nicely enough if you don't have my tastes.

It's a fun read anyhow! <<less

It's good. I just wished that we would get more information about the past (like maybe a POV of the past emperor after MC died). It's too bad that the past was very often wrapped in only one, two sentences...

Adding to that, the main plot - the revenge - wasn't really that hard to achieve, since Mo Qi wasn't a real competition to the MC. That's why the revenge in this novel seems so weak and makes the novel a bit unsatisfying. I wanted more (good) revenge scenes with angst... more>> than romantic scenes. I mean that's why I started this novel....

Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this novel. It isn't complex and therefore easy to read. It's not the best but also not the worst thing i've read. <<less

The start is alright an it's interesting to see the main character return the karma he got in his past life, but as the story progressed it increasingly broke down to the point that the main character became more or less the same as the girl who he wanted go take revenge against (only he wanted to monopolize the emperor suddenly instead of wealth and power.). It's an alright read if you aren't frustrated by the endless descriptions of how cute the main character is and how all sembelence of... more>> intelligence flies out the window in the second half after the other male leads leave. <<less

I binge read this for 2 days and everything is still fresh so I wanna strike while the iron is hot.

It's different from other transmigration stories I've read so far because here we have 2 people -- a boy (MC) and a girl -- who traveled into the past. Said boy was foolishly, blindly in love with the girl in the 21st century when they got sent into the ancient world where he loved her for another 10 years until, after getting everything she wanted, the girl poisoned him to... more>> his death. Then comes the reincarnation when they just entered the imperial harem. Now the MC wants his revenge on the girl for killing him and of course what better way to do it than hugging the golden thigh of the most powerful man -- the emperor himself.

PROS (things I liked) :

    • had a good laugh of the MC's clever antics; he is extremely smart and level headed but his fear of the emperor was sometimes too extreme (though I think anyone from the present who get sent back in the past will feel the same)
    • the romance was developed nicely and we slowly see each character's love-interest become more "beautiful" in their eyes; beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and as readers we experience such in the author's descriptions
    • good character development especially the general's
    • everything was wrapped up pretty nicely at the end (the general's was really poignant T_T)
    • a light read but do note there will be deaths and hidden intrigue/schemes
CONS (rather things I wish the author had written more about or disliked) :

    • the MC and the girl's background in the 21st century could have been explained better
    • their first time was a bit forced for me, not exactly very romantic
    • more interactions between the MC and ML before the rebirth
**This is completely translated in the TL's website. Not sure why it's not labelled such in NU. <<less

Great translations and I really like the story. It's just that, is it wrong to say that I prefer Ling Xiao to be with Fu YuJun?

Spoiler

I mean, c'mon! Between the two people who are after Ling Xiao, Fu YuJun has a lot more of interesting character and attitude compared to the Emperor. Besides, as much as dominance and aggression seem great in a relationship, it's better for our MC to fall with someone who cares about his feelings and is compassionate enough to know when to stop when his partner says "No."

As much as the story goes, I really think that I ship the MC with Fu YuJun. <<less

MC: Ling Xiao

ML: Emperor Mu Chong Xuan

I will give this novel 3/5 if I'm being generous and 2.5 when I'm not.

It is a Yaoi, Rebirth, Revenge, Romance, Historical. But none of the above mentioned genre was done satisfactorily except maybe Historical.

I won't say that I didn't enjoy reading it at all. But some part of the novel still don't seem to fit in.

These 3 things are often said in regards to MC in the novel

  • an intelligent man (while I agree that MC acts cleverly quite often but instances like, when the person MC is scheming against can plainly see that he is upto something just by looking at his face, also makes you think that MC is intelligent only because the author said so.)
  • Seems interesting (even small and simple things done by MC makes him 'interesting' to the main male lead and 2nd male leads)
  • like a kitten (well, I'm fine with this nickname but just why do you need to be so repetitive Author nim!).
  • There is this one other thing, Mo Qi clearly said that MC was an Art student but he somehow also knows how to make gunpowder and that too in a limited time. He also knows the blueprint of cannons, boulder launcher, etc. Things. Not only that he also is a great strategist somehow! Author-nim at least give some reasons for these like say that MC liked to play chess so he excels in strategising.
Male Leads: Throughout the story you'll find that you won't know just how did they fell in love with MC except for maybe the Prince.

  • ML looked like he fell for MC because he was a considerate servant and because he read the secret 'love letter' MC wrote confessing his love for ML.
  • Lan Wei simply falls in love with whoever was his savior. First he thought that Mo Qi saved him so loved her. Tgen he knew the truth that MC saved him and started loving him!
You can read it if you don't mind some plot holes and things that were mentioned above. It was not totally lackluster. It has its own positive points too so go ahead and give it a try and it has only 71 chapters too.

One of the best BLs out there. I wish there were more like this. The MC is smart, the ML is powerful and acts like an actual emperor who is intelligent and clever. Too many BLs have these “amazing powerful emperor” settings but the emperors act like idiots who always get impressed by the smallest thing MC does. And the dialogue isn’t super cringe. The faceslapping is just right and the love story is just enough toxicity for the angst without being actually f*cked up. In short I love this... more>> story it’s got all the cliches that I love but done in a good way <<less

For me this was 3 Stars. I didn't really love the story nor did I dislike it. Imo it's a very plain story and I wasn't very convinced by the writing. It's a very typical reborn/transmigration from modern times story and has all the usual elements in it.

Spoiler

I do not know how many variants of "a trace of craftiness flashed in MC's eyes" were used but it happened quite a lot as well as the comparisons between MC and a kitten... And even though MC was supposed to be sooo smart, he was portrait rather naive and dumb imo. I also dislike the plot device of always somehow knowing the useful stuff from modern times even though this does not make any sense. Like okay maybe MC was a talented dancer and that is fair enough, but then also somehow being able to magically know how to produce gundpowder and making weapons in a really short span of time or somehow being able to produce a lot of blueprints of important machines is such an overused plot device that doesn't make any sense to me.

I mainly kept reading and liking the story because I liked the chemistry between MC and ML and I usually enjoy reading these cliche stories with powerful and possessive MLs. I also think the translation was great and while I'm not the biggest fan of the craftiness and kitten comparisons, the rest of the writing was pretty good.

The story was exciting and it kind of reminded me of Otome games. It had such a good plot, that could become much more. The MC is smart and sly, what builds his character.

BUT!

  • The MC is OVERUSSEDLY compared to animals by other male characters: puppy, kitten, rabbit, peac*ck and octopus- S T O P
"His eyes looked straight in his double-pupils, like a puppy begging for forgiveness. His kitten-like behavior, scratching with his little claws at the Emperor's heart." GAAAAH QAQ

  • Spoiler

Why did revenge on Mo Qi was descripted THIS intensive, while her death was written half-heartedly and MC sometimes through out the story, even forgot about her?

Just as Mo Qi, Len (??) Wei and Prince Fu, the three of them.... disappeared? What happened to them?

  • ML character is plain and can be described in three characteristics: Doesn't like dishonest people, agressive, "doting". That's his whole personality
  • MC is 'very smart' and I was hoping on his character development, which never occurred. On the contrary, it became worse and worse with every chapter. I was supporting him on getting revenge on Mo Qi, but I do think many things he has done were brutal and unnecessary (not only to Mo Qi, but also other 'enemies'). Just straight up rude. MC was also supposed to be the "never bending straight guy", though he bent right after one kiss from the Emperor and become... spoiled and much agressive. I was thinking, just as cool he was at the beginning, at the end I didn't like MC's character much.
  • The Golden Finger and Mary's Halo were too noticeable and even sometimes annoying. It literally didn't make sense, how ML treated the MC, when MC wasn't all that innocent. #teamWei tbh, bro should be the one ; (

Honestly speaking, this was quite a pointless novel. It didn't really provoke my emotions, nor was the story anything significant. In fact, the plot got me quite annoyed because of the lack of response or depth from the characters in their respective situations.

It's a light and relaxing read.

There are some plot holes and the fact the transmigration aspect definitely could've been better handled. (I thought he was supposed to be an art student so dancing and playing the guqin is still okay but he also knows how to draw weapon blueprints and make bombs with gunpowder too??)

This is a bit of a mixed review, specifically the difference between the first half of the novel vs the second half.

First half was 4/5 - Second half was 2/5 - Rating this as 3/5 overall.

The premise of the novel was interesting and well-introduced. We started with the MC waking up in his second life before he was "purified" then when he tried to escape he literally bumped into the Emperor before running away from him which ignited the Emperor's interest. MC was caught and decided that staying in the... more>> palace is the best option to get his revenge.

While in the palace, the MC showed how crafty and clever he was as he schemed. Although there are some actions he had done that irritated me, it was still enjoyable to read. The second half of the story introduced new characters and a new setting but in the end did nothing that contributed in the overall plot apart from adding characters and showing that the ML is powerful and so on.

The main issue here is the lack of character development. ML seemed promising at first but even in the end, we barely know anything about his feelings and thoughts apart from what he feels towards the MC and even that felt a bit impersonal as majority of it is other characters telling the MC how the ML felt for him.

MC in the meantime was likeable at first but by the end of the story he did have some development as a character but... backwards. I felt that the maturity he had at the start disappeared and he got a bit whiny. Also, the way he couldn't return other characters loyalty got a bit irritating and he did have a short realization of that but still felt lacking. Other characters felt very shallow as well, they're fun for what they are but there was nothing more to them.

Even all that though, I did enjoy reading this for what it is. It's not a masterpiece but a good enough novel to pass the time. <<less

I actually planned to give this novel 3 stars, but considering the Translator, I decided to give 4 stars instead.

There's almost no information about MC's past life.

I really hate the last couple of chapters.

Spoiler

This ML actually strangled MC, almost killing him. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because the concubine drank from the same bowl as MC, the concubine didn't do it intentionally tho. Maybe it's because the MC wanted to be friends with the concubine. Or maybe it's because the MC wanted the ML to disperse the harem like it's nothing. ML went to a concubine's palace, I forgot her name. And then MC throws a tantrum. Imperial uncle told MC that ML went there to disperse the harem. Instead of stopping ML, the MC actually said that he should've gotten ML to disperse the harem sooner. And in return, MC made a cannon, making ML's Mu country the number one country.

MC is too OP. He was only an art student so how did he made a cannon, gunpowder, danced an amazing dance, etc.

Well, I'll be honest, actually, I kinda like MC at first. But he became really childish later on.

Spoiler

At the end, I really disliked how they made the MC a brainless and lovestruck character towards the emperor. I was surprised when he threw a tantrum because of the harem; I expected him to handle it more maturely rather than acting like a spoiled brat.

•SPOILERS ON WHO THE ML IS:

Spoiler

The Emperor is the Male Lead, as you may have guessed if you've read a few chapters. Although I had some reservations at first, the fact that they spent 30+ Chapters on their development confirms it.

[collapse]

•Thoughts on ML:

I don't hate him, but I also don't like him; he can be weird and gross at times,

Spoiler

At the end, when the ML strangled the MC simply because he pointed out how he couldn't make friends with others but how the emperor has a plethora of concubines, and the MC just brushed it off as if it was nothing?

[collapse]

-The ML is like a ticking time bomb underground; one wrong move and he'll explode out of nowhere. His constant mood swings are terrifying, and I was scared for the MC. Their lack of communication is so aggravating; if they had just sat down and talked properly for once, everything would have been less chaotic. If I had to pick between the ML and the other MLs, I'd go with the latter.

Overall, I preferred the Second ML to the others.

-I like how he went out of his way to protect the MC. Maybe it's just my preference for playful and teasing characters, but he was far superior to the tyrannical emperor.

Spoiler

But the whole 'wedding in three days' thing was a little off-putting. But I'm glad he didn't make him do it if he didn't want to.

[collapse]

•"Is this novel a harem?"

Spoiler

Yes, it is, but it's more of a love angle, in my opinion. Lan Wei, the third ML, was essentially a background character. Even the way he realized he had feelings for the MC was unnatural. So, despite the fact that this is a harem novel, I only see two male leads.

[collapse]

•My thoughts on the MC:

-I like some aspects of him, one of which is that he doesn't constantly say he's straight, which is unusual in novels where the MCs are homophobic. But he's so annoying that I almost gave up on the novel because of him. He's not a particularly bright character, but he's also not s*upid. Overall, he's a pretty funny and decent character, but he can get on my nerves at times.

•Overall rating - 3.5/5

-The novel is adequate, and the world building and characters are also alright. Although it is not the best novel ever written, it was a neutral read. If you want to read it, go ahead, but I don't recommend it at all; it's a complete waste of time. <<less

His change of characters is really out of the blue? I was kind of surprised when he actually did throw a tantrum for the ML to disperse the harem.

[collapse]

The ML... well not much to say, but I have to confess that this novel make me realize that I have a weak point for stories that involve emperors haha

For the story, I enjoyed it. The only part that I don't like is the arc with the second or maybe third male lead? just a warning though, there indeed second and third male lead (because I don't like it when this happened), but well you could say nothing much in emotionally aspect happening with those two guys. Yeah, the MC was straight in the first place so...

Spoiler

though I was really frustrated on how "casual" and "dense" the MC reacts and treats the second and third male leads. I don't like plot where there are other potential male leads in the first place, so this is the only thing that I hate from this novel.

[collapse]

Do I recommend this novel? I remember that this novel had been one of my favourite novel and I enjoyed it so much, though now I have different take on this novel but I will still recommend this novel for people who likes vengeful protagonist :) <<less

The Last chapter might make you heart feel conflicted toward the ML. But I personally kinda enjoyed the Drama. As long as it wasn't cross the line. It... more>> almost very close. But they didn't. Thank god! And it has Satisfying Ending YESSS!!!!

The MC might be intelligence sometimes Badass, but definitely not not fragile. Like seriously? He was cornered so many times. His success was from Half his Intelligence and Half from Luck! But that Imperfection what made the story even more Intense!

Let's not forget the ML. Seriously... It's hard to know what the ML thinking. ML is that Sly, that OP, that Harsh, that Something!

But I adore the Enemies become Friends that MC experienced. The characters that I have no worries toward after they're friendly toward MC because their feelings. Especially when others' made me worried.

This Novel is a Dog Blood where we questioning Loyalty...

Do I love it? Yes! Is it perfect? No! But I read it in under 12 hours because it was so damn exciting I can't stop till the end!!! Is it Worth it? YES!

It's definitely different from many other Transmigration and/or Revenge/Second Chance Novel! It's a Lot for a novel with less than 100, no 80 chapters!! <<less
