This story should be called Divine Throne of Primordial Boredom.

I like how cunning the MC is. I also like his scathing wit when he's arguing with other characters... but the torturous pacing really kills any kind of enjoyment. I also feel like the story setting and power system is a bit dry -- both lack the near limitless scope of most xuanhuan. Dropping this at chapter 103 since most of the stuff I care about has been wrapped up and I think I've given this story a fair shake.

Definitely a work worth reading. I love how author baits us into thinking that we about to witness another cliche and make things go the other way. While reading I always had a thought "damn man this thing so good in comparison to last 20 things that I read".

Too bad it slipped to boringness at about 70%.

Still would highly recommend it.

This novel started off strong. and for something that is 7 novels to keep me invested until around the 5th one is great. This author is great at making awesome side characters then not mentioning them again for hundreds of chapters till you get a sentence of info on them.

early on the author left a note about how he was upset about the MCs lack of humanitarianism from doing human experiments. from that moment on there were TONS of times that it felt like the author was doing his all... more>> to justify it.

This started off strong, then got bland then got bad. standard massive time skips, random new cultivation realms. etc. this reads like a fanfic of Desolate Era but you are reading about the cultivator that started the cultivation system... in a boring textbook way. <<less

First time I read the story, before it was done, I remember stopping because just one or two books were translated. Either way, I wasn't impressed so didn't care to pick it up again even when the translation was done, up until a week ago.

The first few books make you feel that it's a typical cultivation novel, with all the tropes, but the author doesn't squeeze them dry, so you can keep on reading. Gradually, however, you realize that even if here and there you encounter when in other stories... more>> you'll label as "plot armor" or "wish fulfillment", here everything is actually thoughtfully constructed. That the author surprisingly designed a story before starting to write.

It's not dazzling. Not half as entertaining for me as some other stories that I like, but still it's better than like 99.99999 % of what's out there and should be given a chance by anyone who likes cultivation stories.

For those who're wondering, the MC is truly growing while you read the story. He's like a combination of the MC from "warlock of the magus world" and the crazy senior brother of the MC in "rise of humanity", only more humane. He acts realistically and cruel only for the sake of his race... You don't have to approve of his actions, against others, but everything he does is toward that otherwise can't be achieved.

Supporting characters are also alright. You don't get much of them, but at least they are not shallowed.

Cultivation feels sort of bland for a long, long while, until you realize where the author is going, but even then it's not as moving as in other stories, even those clichés, though better constructed nonetheless. <<less

This is a great novel. I would give it a 95/100. In the world of the novel, the world is dominated by beasts but there are also many different intelligent races vying for power and resources. The MC is a young master of a low tier human clan. The story is about how he gets a cheat power (that is well integrated into the lore of the novel) and becomes basically a genius mad scientist that creates and discovers a variety of new cultivation methods, items, and how his creations... more>> allow the human race to be the strongest race.

Here are some notable good aspects:

  1. This is not a tr*sh tier reincarnation/transmigration with a nonsensical cheat power. The MC is part of the world, the cheat power is also part of the world. As somebody who dislike the laziness and pointlessness in which tr*sh tier authors insert the above tropes into webnovels, this novel handles the cheat power pretty well.
  2. The author is great a story telling and building up the world. The world building is pretty good, its interesting but not overwhelming. The author is also very creative in this aspect which shows in this novel. He goes into detail about different races and their culture, habits, and behavior. The behavior of the human clans and social hierarchy is also well defined and interesting.
  3. This is not a tr*sh tier cultivation novel. The MC is not just a brain dead 'hero' who runs into plot armor, he generates his plot armor through schemes, lies, plots, and planning ahead. Not every person in the world the MC meets is a bloodthirsty maniac that wants to mu*der the MC for the smallest reason, the author dives into the background of each enemy and why there is conflict. Many times, a previous enemy becomes an ally specifically because they were able to work out why they and the MC had a conflict and resolve it.
I would recommend everybody to give this novel a shot. The novel takes itself seriously. Its not trying to pad chapters with useless repeated plot. Each arc moves the whole story towards the end goal. <<less

Honest a great novel

A protagonist who is smart and more realistic. Plot Armour that is almost logical.

Antagonist that aren't just recycled. The only reason it gets 4 is the romance isn't really great fair enough its not the focus of the story I felt the author could of did a bit more with since the FL's are actually well written well most of them.

what I really like about this novel is

Spoiler

I like how this novel seems to be the history of all cultivation novels, where other novels cultivation just magically came into existence and techniques and skills where created by this and that ancestor.

Su Chen seems to be the ancestor, and the skills and techniques where derived from beast, etc

Reading this novel after having read a lot of cultivation novels there are a few things that jump out on how this one is different

  • The setting is in the early cultivation world, normal cultivation is limited and everyone currently uses bloodlines as their main power source.
  • The MC is a mad scientist character who is working on inventing the 'non bloodline' cultivation method
  • The MC is a anti hero

To the person on the first page who left a review that his relationships are not realistic I would say he never heard of Stockholms syndrome. It's when a captured person falls in love with the person who imprisoned them.

Love it so far so good. The MC is quite intelligent and have a good sense of justice. Yes he is OP and obviously he has good plot armour, but saying that he still has to suffer a lot of hardships in between, especially from his own clan so I consider his powering up and successes very realistic. For me it is a very fun read and quite funny in places. There are few lovable characters as well as hateful ones, but they add spice to the story. There's a... more>> reason for him being blind from the beginning, but just read the story carefully to find out for yourself why and just don't believe the none sense on one of the reviewers who has given this a low star rating. Anyway, just give it a go and you may like it as for me going to carry on reading 'till I caught up to the latest available chapter. <<less

Probably one of the good ones that I have read. Good pace, good characters, some good punchlines. Characters don't disappear but remain in the story as it progresses.

I like this novel. The characters are solid, and the plot is alright. Main character is cool calm and collected, and though he's supposed to be strong, there seems to be a focus on him outwitting people. In that way, the novel reminds me quite lot of Rakuin no Monshou, except for the fact that it's in a pretty average chinese novel setting.

The world is relatively well made, though the author doesn't end up following through well. In other words: the world is pretty interesting, but the immediate settings that... more>> the main character is placed into aren't as good.

Main Character dialogue sometimes reads like something a highschooler would write in an essay when they're a couple sentences away from meeting the word-count. Nobody talks like that out loud! <<less

An OK novel, starts out as more of a generic albiet a fairly decent cultivation novel with annoying "extra elements" that seemed kind of dumb and tacked on. Which becomes the main focus of the entire novel in the second book. Usually novels have some sort of interesting element and becomes more generic as time goes on but this is the opposite. Unfortunately the execution is horrid and the first half of the second book is a complete slog to read through, the cultivation elements painfully go out... more>> the window only to be excused do to plot armor. The second part of the second book was fairly interesting the elements took more of a back seat though still present. I would of given it a 3 stars but I am quite interested as the end of the second book so I gave it 4 <<less

I like this novel a lot. I like the protagonist and how he thinks. I find the world that was created by the author from this novel very interesting and colorful. It's one of the most well thought stories I have ever read, each character has different facets and are not just plane individuals who make the expected decisions. I think every aspect of this novel feel multidimensional and its very interesting how the protagonist is a path seeker for humanity. The MC is not some mr. Perfect he is... more>> very outstanding, but he makes mistakes which makes him feel more real.

I love this novel. Almost everything about it is good.

If I must complain about one thing, it is the translator.

The status of this novel has been (Looking for a job)

Its been months since he posted that as an excuse for not posting more chapters. Volare is not a website for this type of novel either. Volare is for romance and women novels. The novel would be a lot more popular in wuxiaworld or gravity.

I wouldn't recommend reading it since its probably dropped by the translator and reading machine translations ruins the experience. <<less

Great novel, I recommend it !

Pro

    • Smart MC, actually knowing that being overly arrogant is dumb and not killing around randomly like a savage. His schemes are a pleasure to follow.
    • Nice romance for a Xuanhuan.
    • Not all characters are idiotic hot blooded teens, some even are friends.
    • Interesting world building.
Con

    • First part is the weakest (the family one).

Not bad... don't believe any troll who rated below 2.5

Positives:
MC has intelligence and knows what low-key means
Interesting story world.
Plot makes sense and is progressive

Negatives:
Arrogant young master personalties later in story
Typical Xuanhuan & Romance narratives
Not a rememberable novel
MC can scheme, but still makes absolutely blatant horrendously s*upid mistakes occasionally
Example - ... more>>
Spoiler

He knows trying to crack the bloodline monopoly would get him killed. BUT STILL chooses to post it publicly, without considering nor asking how easy it would be to track him down!?!? In a dreamworld where any information can be bought... you simply overlook this?? ONE simple question of security / rules to the fairy in this new environment would have resolved all ensuing consequences - OF course this is done by author design to make a dangerous plot for the MC

Author, creates a smart MC who just happens to make such a s*upid mistakes?? SMH author - Your character is either smart or dumb, choose.

Still, lots of potential thus far and semi logical. Would recommend if you have too much time. <<less

This story has character. It's a wonderfully executed story. There's correct amounts of attractive qualities, from an intriguing, well laid out world, to a protagonist whom actually plans, schemes, and manipulates if the situation so befits. Very early on, the protagonist stands his ground against 'heaven shaking beauties', and that itself earns him quite the credit. Not only that, but the protagonist then goes on to neuter one of the women as well.

The greatest negative of this story however is that there's Just too much hesitations in this story. As... more>> if the author is wanting to do something, but fears the social repercussions of actually writing it. So he decides on toning everything down. It's a shame.

I love the story (barring the possibility that the author does not further develop the MC's eye powers) except for the romance which seems sappy and childish in comparison to the vicious strategies conducted by the MC.

Half-decent so far.
Spoiler

There's a significant lack of details in some cases. The whole thing about how he goes to the Crimson Mountain or whatever for punishment but there's literally no one checking on if he actually did his full time? How does his clan know he fulfilled his entire 100 days? Also the whole gender thing of that girl that keeps showing up in his room is confusing because different pronouns keep getting used to refer to the same person.

On the other hand, there's some really interestingly written lines like "her face became acquainted with the table" or "her face defeated the table" (can't remember the exact wording but it was super hilarious)

Beginning of the novel was pretty great, with Su Chen using his wits to stay alive and craft a good situation for himself.

The story is slow, and Su Chen has to use his brain more than his brawns to wiggle himself out of most situations which is a new style in these type of cultivation novels.

However, I still think this novel is quite overrated. Su Chen is extremely smart outsmarting the smartest of people and is probably one of the most intelligent scientists ever, so in terms of character its... more>> a 5/5, however in terms of story, I would rate it average or maybe even below.

Like I mentioned, it is slow, but sometimes I found most chapters to be honestly filler, mostly the middle part of the novel.

Spoiler

His arc in the school is literally like 200 chapters of absolutely nothing occurring.

[collapse]

The story starts to pick up after about 60% of the novel is done, so if you are fine with that, it might be ok, but to me I was pretty boring, especially since the last 5 chapters was just a huge info dump about the whole story. You can probably read the first 100 chapters, maybe some interesting cultivation chapters, and then read the end, and you will not miss much. Ending is probably a 1/5 honestly.

Overall 3/5, it seems like the author hit a bit of slump in the middle sections and his creativity was overshadowed by overwhelming pointless detail. However, it did seem like it got better as it approached the end, but the ending itself was pretty horrible. <<less

This story is pretty good, avoiding a fair amount of the usual cliches in the genre and operating on a somewhat higher level in terms of realism than normal. It's also the only story I know that actually takes a scientific tack to cultivation, with the main character being, for once, a pioneer of cultivation rather than simply following tradition or reviving some ancient system or whatever.

That said, the main character is utterly heartless. Don't read this story if you need a likeable protagonist, because you won't find one here.... more>> The longer the story goes on the more malevolent and sociopathic he becomes, going on genocidal rampages with flimsy justifications,

, and treating loyal followers as disposable pawns. The author is approaching the story from a position of communist realpolitik (he references Zhou Enlai's writings in author's notes), so I certainly wasn't expecting a shonen-style heroic protagonist, but communist realpolitik is different from outright amoral carnage.

TL;DR, there's a lot of things to like here, but the main character is not one of them. He's a cold-hearted fiend who talks about the importance of maintaining a bottom line while constantly moving his downward in a spiral of brutality and treachery <<less
