My total score would be 4.5 because some part just really reminds you of rebirth of the thief (not sure which one is first tho). However I prefer this one over rebirth as the details are a bit better and you can see that the MC struggled a bit whenever he fight with boss monster even with his past knowledge.

The pace however is really slow, as of right now (ch115), only 3 to 4 days had just passed since the start of the game, and MC is just... more>> at lvl 7 which is also the highest lvl. However it is still enjoyable even with that slow level up as we can see that MC is doing everything he can in that 4 days to get as much money and rare quest reward as he can.

My advice is, if you like the rebirth genre, high chance you will like this one. Try giving this at least 10 to 20 chapters <<less

Fantastic story. Quite possibly the purest virtual reality story I've ever read. At least 90% of the chapters are about the game, and the remaining chapters in reality are for the sake of promoting the guild's overall development.

Disregard the naysayers if you have the ability to read beyond a few hundred chapters. The MC does become OP really quickly, but what I enjoyed about the novel was how skillfully the author fleshed out the overall system. There's design creations, stables, mounts, managing guilds, actual consequences for losing equipment, skill progression;... more>> all of this culminates to form a detailed virtual gaming world that the author really put a lot of thought into. Think of ROTSSG as a cross between Zhan Long and Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, with a more exhaustive gaming system than ZL and the system of professional life skill players like LMS. With the MC's fast progression the novel is quite easy to read, since most Chinese novels that go beyond the 1000+ mark lose momentum as the story progresses.

It's hard to judge the quality of a novel when there's barely a hundred chapters released, but I can guarantee that the overall consistency of this novel equals or even surpasses the likes of ISSTH. And even then I didn't really enjoy ISSTH. <<less

All the people who criticize the protagonist's luck and plot armor, I'm guessing that all of you are new to Asian novels and know nothing about it. Otherwise, how would ever like any of them. This novel is vey good for those that enjoy the genre. The translation is very good and the MC is OP but very clever as well. I assure you it'll be a good read as long as you're not going to do a marathon run with it, then you'll get bored after about 100ch or... more>> so. <<less

It's good. He's not obsessed with women, he occasionally has challenges to face, and compared to other novels it feels like it's own unique novel. That being said, there are many flaws. MC gets a bs mask that allows him to change his appearance and name (which, while feasible in a cultivation novel, is ridiculous for a virtual reality novel). MC also gets a rare, game breaking, OP sword, rare, game breaking, OP skills, etc. He's not as OP as the MC in Shura's Wrath, but still noticeably OP. It's... more>> not as gradual as Zhan Long (which is already pretty bad with making the MC OP), where the MC may get strong equipment and skills, but only for his level. Here, the MC gets end game type skills and equipment very early on which is what I find annoying. Frankly, this deserves a 3, but I'm in a generous mood so I'm giving it a 4 (primarily because he hasn't acted like a fool for women yet). <<less

Oh my goodness is this novel gruelling, it demands so much time and to be honest, I have half a mind to abandon it and not look back. But I keep coming back, why? Because it's a tr*shy novel and I like to torture myself. If it had better pacing and a little (a lot) more realistic, I think I would enjoy it more.

The first 500 chapters were alright, but afterwards...

But now, I enjoy reading the reviews much more than the OG novel.

THE FEMALE CHARACTERS ARE INFURIATING. I WANT TO... more>> THROW WHATEVER I'M READING ON ACROSS THE ROOM WHEN ONE OF THEIR NAMES POP UP

MC does NOT need 30000000-bed warmers, chill. They all have one thought like they were made in the same factory. And that one thought is to warm MC's bed, like, girly-pop, get a life.

If this novel had better female characters... It would be a HUGE improvement, if I quit reading this novel, it's because of the female characters.

AND BLACKIE. He abandoned Blackie, his IRL best friend, the best friend who quit the moment MC was fired, like, wtf? What kind of a friend does that?! If I was Blackie, I wouldn't tolerate it. (I'm also really petty, so I would probably do something s*upid)

I'm not gonna waste any more time writing this review, I refuse to do so.

(Also Grammarly says that this review is joyful, wtf?) <<less

This is a crap piece for passing time. I usually am resilient to varying degrees of bad writing. Some are so bad, I would not start or drop it fast. But this get so boring, so repetitive, I slowly feel my neurons sleeping permanently. And I am writing this now because it even fails spectacularly at being a washed out cardboard box read that it is. It is full of inconsistencies. I am not just talking with translations or CN author's problem with numbers. Honest to god, cartoon logic, in... more>> a serious setting where the readers are jokers for reading it.

Btw, shitty author forgot that MC had 22, 000 instead of 12, 000 contribution points with War God Temple the second time he broke one of passage or smth during Stone Town siege, completely missing out on what was written later on when he redeems them. It happened second time when MC got 'Nuclei of Life'. Already got, but talking as if hadn't.

Novel TLDR:

Spoiler

He remembers bunch of stuff that so many 'underdog' gets that raised their guild to peak because of such singular stuff. And he gets them, but there's no follow up on majority of such opportunity. Even before he sets up a chain of management or a way to utilize it, he jumps to next thing.

Step 1. Oh here's A.

Step 2. Get A.

Step 3. Start making profit... Ooh wait new shiny B..

Step 4. Repeat from 1.

Yeah, nothing more to say except give examples. Like Dark Den - Hundred wine that improves skill completion, speaking of skill completion, there's mechanism to go past 100%. He gets to 101% once, and did not bother about it till now. and that is 900+ chapters back.

Yeah, those line breaks. Kinda makes hard skimming through chapters. When there's introducing something X and at least 3 paragraphs are dedicated to explain how MC profited from getting it.

Also Why is the damn game upgrading or updating or releasing expansion packs like a teenage boy masturbating. Oh, look MC touched something, got something or tried to identify something. Quick release an update.

So many memberships, discounts, it forces CN level economy principles down our throats. Oh, offer two tiers for 10% and 20% discount. But we are also offering similar discounts for similar product in another city. Oh don't bother unifying, let it be.

There is a mineral vein, and it involved lot of big powers fight over it before reincarnating. Now we are going to get it. But no worries. Author will shove a forceful plot where assassins follow MC and see the vein. No, nowhere does plot goes with such intelligence or delicate way where action happens. No, it only happens when author wants awkward plot points shoved down our throats.

This belongs to the category "baby's first novel"; I don't see how anyone else can get enjoyment out of this one. Early parts are mediocre/okay'ish, middle parts are middle parts are Groundhog Day parts are Groundhog Day, late parts (~2200 onwards) just throw any remnants of coherency out the window.

Unironically, the biggest downside of this novel is that the author decided to write the story around a VRMMO. If they rather went full wuxia with people being able to freely travel between two intertwined worlds or something, I'd rate the... more>> novel 2 or 2.5/5. The decision to insert a game into the mix just makes almost everything that happens so incredibly s*upid.

"If you die in game you die in real world" is a hundredfold more realistic idea than anything that happens in this novel.

-Edit- Hoo boy. The ending is a trainwreck. If you appreciate stories with well-written endings, stay far away from this one. The author didn't even try. <<less

It's actually absurd how this novel even has a rating of 3.2, it makes no sense.

This novel is horrible, I would not recommend. If you gave this novel a 4-5 star, there is definitely something wrong with you.

CONS:

  • The class tier system makes no sense, it almost seems like the author knew he should've stopped adding fillers. From like tier 1-3 it took probably 1000+ chapters, then the rest were like 100 chapters apart or something.
  • Everything got repetitive. I liked the premise and the leveling up system, but alas the author ruined it. Like, each chapter is the freaking same. Guild fights are repeated, but with different guilds. He magically gets heaven defying items that always come in clutch.
  • All the characters besides the protagonist are npcs, literal npcs. They don't have the ability to think for themselves. Like, if you know that this man has won against multiple people, WHY are you still attacking. Like, after 1 guild fight, it goes right to another.
  • If I had a nickle for everytime I read a woman trying to have s** just to get carried, I would be rich.
  • Literally no plot, every single arc has multiple plot holes.
  • Everything is made for the MC, just because you were reborn does not mean you know every single hidden quest.
There is no pros for this novel except... more>> for the good premise that was ruined. Don't waste time on this novel, if you gave this novel a 5, you are incapable of thinking for yourself. <<less

Ok I am not sure why everyone is hating on this novel. Yes he has a bunch of lucky encounters, but he steals them from others because he has knowledge from his previous life. One item made them op he stole several of these encounters how can he not be op? Killing monsters that took a lot of people yes, he grinds them by using a spot later discovered also knowledge from the previous life.

All in all this was a very nice novel to read, ofc there are some very... more>> lucky encounters and chance drops that appear just at the right time but to be honest I have read novels that built on that for the character so survive. In this novel the plot armour happens as well but not nearly as often.

The world building was excellent, the storyline was well made, skills and systems was well thought out. I liked how he built something from nothing, it does not just appear. Also you see the foundations he created and the teamwork put into it. The side characters are not forgotten and are built up.

All in all it is a fantastic ride ! <<less

Story is VERY TYPICAL of cultivation novels but with the virtual gaming/sci-fi angle. Just when you think the peak has been reached, there comes another peak. The MC's current peak level is always described as SUPER RARE within the real world and within the game, until hordes of people at the same level suddenly appear out of hiding. But never fear, the MC must have picked up a divine legendary plot armor at the start of his regression because he always gets the necessary super rare drops or encounters right... more>> before these new hidden experts appear to challenge him, by which time he's already reached a level beyond them. Rinse and repeat. At some point in the the novel stops trying to make sense with it's sci-fi aspects as seemingly only the MC's real life cultivation level is affected as much by his in-game performance. Various plot points are even just dropped or poorly developed. <<less

The novel definitely has its flaws and despite that I'll rate it five stars.

This has to do with a valid reason behind why this new VRMMO is so game changing, the people from fortune 500 companies are willing sink hundreds of millions of dollars into the game.

The surface reason, that we learn at the start of the novel is that time moves twice as fast as in the real world. Effectively doubling your lifespan, you can eat, have s*x and blah blah even more. There are even more reasons why... more>> this game is suddenly the focus of the entire world which are revealed nearing the end of the story but they involve the security of the Earthen civilization.

Unlike so many other VRMMOs novels where I can't quite get why, what's the significance of the game? Beyond being a fad that will pass away like World of Warcraft, Runescape, League of Legends, what other stuff can this game contribute to the real world.

Like I said earlier in my review, the game itself is a strategic resource for earth. Which is why I like this series.

That said, side character development is very very weak. I understand the need for quests and power ups but at some point it starts feeling so formulaic that you can nod off reading it.

There are also plot points that the author just forgets. I guess that can happen over 3000 chapters, but it still doesn't look good.

I love the novel for how fresh it feels in its realism. I.e. People aren't just going crazy over this game for no reason at all. That's why I stuck to reading till 2918. <<less

The author breaks a lot of promises to the reader. Plots are started then never completed. Many things are alluded to but never taken action on. Despite that, the novel still kept me entertained until the end (although I did do a lot of skimming in the later 2000s chapters), but not enough for me to want to read the sequel (the first novel ends at c2918).

Solid 3/5, average quality if you suspend your feelings of disbelief.

I read it twice until chapter 2k or so, can't continue, just can't.

It's very slow, chichè characters, 1IQ villains, and it's sooo daaaaamnnn repetitive!

I loved the start but it gets heavier to read towards the end and at a certain point it just makes your brain give up.

However, it entertained me for a little while so not 1 star.

This novel is incredibly dumb. It really just ticks all the boxes for an uninspired gamer power fantasy. It seems every single character shares a single braincell and MC somehow ends up ahead due to his future knowledge speedrun guide and MC 100% ultra rare item drop rate. The power system is all over the place with at least three different tracks of random power ups. It's really not even particularly funny unless your prefered brand of comedy is along the lines of:

"Heh, this MC guy looks pretty weak and... more>> his opponent is incredibly strong for all the reasons so there's just no way MC can win this he might as well just give up right now!", *MC proceeds to beat the opponent easily*, "Wow no way MC is so cool how is it even possible to be that cool, good, strong and also very cool".

If that happens to be what gets you going then oh boy are you in luck, because that scene plays out in some variation every single time the MC meets anyone not explicitly allied to him. I have rarely seen such a gross overuse of useless third party opinions to set the scene every time the MC takes a step anywhere. <<less

I tried to like this and I remember the more I read the worse I enjoyed the story. It's a decent premise but not unique that is ruined by the author not really carrying about his own rules. Power creep in these stories is almost a given, but literally ignoring things you've written in the past, repeatedly is just poor writing.

An odd review ik but if you know me you'll know I just like these tropes lol, the novel always makes me happy for being what it intended to be in the first place and I unironically enjoyed it lol. It being cliche, doesn't make sense is honestly sometimes just make me want to laugh lol. The characters is simply a whole circus and I just- dang yeah I love this novel. Not everyone sure but honestly, for me it's such a fun read to brighten up your mood

ALRIGHT BACK AT THIS REVIEW BECAUSE I'M BORED AND ALSO THE ADAPTATION MAKES ME PISSED LMAO-

So first and foremost- I still thoroughly enjoy this novel even as people says after chapter 1000 it goes downgrade- I honestly don't think so, the MC is still the fun MC (I JUST- HE ACTS IN A WAY THAT FITS HIS AGE AND THAT ALONE MAKE ME LIKE HIM AND HOW HE JUST FIGHT EVERYONE THAT DOESN'T LIKE HIM IS FUN- sure as the time goes he is slowly becoming super OP but y'all know he is like- from the future no? all the advantages he get early game would have helped a whole lot from what I see-

Alright next is- the plot- honestly perfectly fine as it is- more towards slice of life?with slap facing fast paced tho if I say so myself sure repeat but cmon- it's funny af and how there's always news stuff up ahead- it's just- Idk why it's just fun to read each face slapping arc lmao. Not really threatening sure but like- it's still cool and I just enjoy imagining these as some short non related stories sometime haha

Spoiler

hope I use this right but I honestly don't mind the ending- it fits quite well with his original goal and now that it's done- time to ig went back

[collapse]

And also no romance which is refreshing simply because these type of novels usually don't fit with them...... and most author still trying to shove it to my throat-

So.... I would describe this story as sci-fi cultivation vrmmo reincarnation.

That's a mouthful of genre tags, and yes, it's a glorious mess. The thing I like about this story is the world, so I'm going to describe it here in the best light possible... it's b-movie level pulp.

The setting is in the future, there is space travel -- references to it being an intersteller age are mentioned in tandem with the "high-level energy" that is the source of the health improving nutrishakes and other consumable products that support people in... more>> the cultivation track of the story. Benefits like regained youth, elevated physique, mental faculties, etc.

The vrmmo itself seems to have it's mechanics deeply rooted in the martial cultivation side, the game elements and progression support and train players to be low-grade superhumans, which of course drives the rich and powerful mad with desire just like most xanxia stories, so expect that level of hole-in-head s*upid villains, and toss back the popcorn.

That's about it for the pros, the cons of this story are it's tropey, cliche story populated with shallow villains and allies. Don't look for plot consitancy and deep characters, expect a OP face-slappiing power fantasy -- it is what it is.

Overall, it's pulp fiction. It can be fun to read, but know what you getting into -- it's popcorn reading. <<less

So... not the best WN out there, but by far not the worst. It's best described as low-effort snack reading with some caveats.

There's a somewhat decent plot in there hidden under a lot of exposition, rinse/lather/repeat story arcs, and large chunks of stat listings designed to appeal to autistic gamers that probably exist to pad out page count for whichever site hosted the original Chinese version of the WN.

MC has a tendency to go into "Blue Screen of Death" mode anytime something either surprises him or goes contrary to his... more>> memories of his previous life

Spoiler

or rather, lives.

[collapse]

with depressing regularity, which only seems to paint the MC as a blockhead, rather than serve as an attempt to convey the importance or urgency of the new plot development.

Overall, the antagonists and occasionally the side-characters give a disturbing insight into the minds of these future Mainland Chinese citizens, and if the narrative is to be believed, then apparently future Mainland Chinese citizens are almost all narcissists with Borderline Personality Disorder, including the MC, and possibly the author himself.

So if you can filter out these things (or just skip the "Wall-o-Text" stat listings that come in every time a new item is introduced or the MC levels up), you get a low-effort bit of yummy junk-food-tier snack reading that can be entertaining if you like OP protagonists who only sometimes risk failure but always have an "I Win" card hidden somewhere in the small details (and "Wall-o-Text" stat listings).

Also, it's entertaining as hell to see douchebag Mainland Chinese antagonists "GET REKT, " as they say in the urban vernacular. It's always a good day when a fictitious Mainlander douche gets got.

Sure, the story arcs tend to be repetitive, but they seem to promise a build-up to some future reveal until the somewhat rushed and flat "ending, " but then it slowly dawns that the first 2900+ chapters

Spoiler

were merely the prologue. It's in the title itself: Reincarnation of the Strongest SWORD GOD.

The MC wasn't a Sword God in his first life, merely a mid-tier "Sword King." He becomes a SWORD GOD in his second life, before attempting to gain access to an "Upper World" that is supposedly the "Real" God's Domain, but apparently something either Insta-killed him or banished him to the original "Domain" or Timeline from which he originated, from the moment he'd originally reincarnated (or possibly transmigrated? The rushed "ending" of the first half hints of a sort of multiverse and the MC's original timeline and the new timeline are just some of many that exist under the "Upper Worlds" including the "Real God's Domain" from which the VR game is modeled).

So the first series is just a prologue on the MC becoming a "Sword God, " and the "Alternate Ending"/Stealth Sequel is where the story really begins, with the "Reincarnation" part of the title.

[collapse]

tl;dr: Many flaws, but still an entertaining bit of junk-food snack-reading if you can filter out some of the worst parts of the junk, and then appreciate the clever twist

Spoiler

that the first damn near 3000 chapters/10 Volumes you've been reading are just the prologue, and the "Sequel" where the MC reincarnates into his previous life after having lived for 10+ years in the alternate timeline as a "Sword God" is where the proper story is about to begin.

Pros:

The game elements are interesting there and so are the hidden npcs and quests. It drawn me into this story despite the many cons it has and the best of all is no harem or romance. I've been getting really sick of the harem/ fmls either being a damsel in distress, or just a golden finger of the MC made for the sake of boosting the MCs worth or pride. The story is good read but author needs to go in detail. Usually it's awkward or exciting when meeting someone from game in real world but it's all just meh here. The character development in real life meh it just happens and it is the norm deal with it. Felt like author wanted to be done with writing the story so that he doesn't forget the plots. I feel like author could add a lot more stuff but he chose not to too bad.
