The tens of thousands of universes have merged. The disintegration of spiritual force led to the momentous collapse of the great Cultivation World, a mighty era that had endured through millions of years of history. In the wake of the large-scale invasion of the Wilderness, the Avalon of Five Elements has become the practitioners’ last stand.

After a thousand years, a lowly youth, who hailed from the Old Territory, toiled as a laborer for three years in the depths of the Wilderness. He then became an exception and obtained the opportunity to enter the Avalon Of Five Elements for further studies.

Bearing beast-like fighting capabilities and driven by the desire to take control of his life, the youth strived for greater strength and power. Little did he know that he would set off a majestic upheaval.

This novel is one of the most pretentious web novels I've read. The author has this strange theme of always choosing an underdog for an MC in his stories; an underdog that will fight all odds with his sweat and blood. Talent doesn't matter as long as you have a strong will and hardworking. Only, this is just an illusion to mask the excuses the author engineered such that the protagonist is actually lucky, has a somewhat convenient backdrop to excuse things that will happen in the future that will... more>> inevitably rise his level just because.

One might say, "Hey! That's just an aspect of the show. There are so many more novels that are worse than this. Why would you say that it is one of the most pretentious web novel?", or something close to that. Well, yeah. That's not the only reason why I said it is one of the most pretentious web novel I've read. There are actually two more reasons. The second one is that I have poor memory so I might have forgot other pretentious novels and has little to no novels to compare this novel's pretentiousness.

As for the last, it has something to do with how the author uses his characters. Most, if not all, of his characters are one dimensional. They lack real personality and only identified by some cliche characteristics. Furthermore, it feels rather annoying to me to use other characters for his comic relief and power-up of the MC. An example for the former is how he shows the MC having a good time while another character currently experiencing a bad time. It felt forced. It's like hearing the author say, "Hey, you should laugh in this scene." or something. An example for the latter, on the other hand, is in the recent scenes in recent chapters (I'm in c41) wherein the girl character was conveniently hungry, conveniently was not able to resist eating normal food even though she, according to the author, only eats elemental food all her life, conveniently ate at the same restaurant the MC went to, conveniently has no money with her, conveniently only has her very important bracelet with her to exchange things with, and so conveniently was linked to the MC in an earlier manner. But that's not the only convenience that we can see. We also have the MC to bring his sword to practice because the sand puppet conveniently asked a convenient question, and a convenient sword embryo, that will conveniently absorb the bracelet. And then we have the Duan guy that will conveniently show up, conveniently say some words that will conveniently anger the other two, that will conveniently make them attack him without mercy, and will conveniently be not physically fit to defend himself, that will conveniently awaken some sort of thing to the MC. So many conveniences. I know that shows can only be deemed interesting if conveniences to make interesting things happen appear. But with so many convenience? That's bad writing in my book.

Even though I say that they are convenient, it is still worth the praise for the author's part to engineer these things a few chapters in (the sword embryo thing). But that's the only worthy thing to be praised on his part since everything else is shit. Info dumps are quite plenty, especially when author tries to excuse the power-ups of MC, expecting the audience to believe that he's the only one who discovered such things in the span of more than a million years. Really s*upid.

Excuse Scoring:

Writing Style: 5 (again, I'm a sucker at rating writing styles since I rarely read classic novels)
Story and Plot: 3 (no real story and plot at the moment. Just some "slice of life" for the mc)
Characters: 2 (most are depicted as 1-D characters to further author's agenda; not real enough for me)
Enjoyment: 5 (I skimmed through paragraphs to reduce my boredom and maximize my enjoyment)
Total: 3.75 = 3 = 1/5

(read my genius black belly miss for the explanation why it became 1/5) <<less

DO NOT READ THIS WEBNOVEL! IT IS UNFINISHED! THIS IS HOW IT ENDS:

Spoiler

Initially, people were still actively searching for the Assembly of Patriarchs and Chi Tong. However, as time went by, nobody could even find a single trace of them. The Assembly of Patriarchs had practically vanished from this world. In the meantime, Skyheart City, God Nation, and Jadeite Forest seemed to have coordinated some sort of self-imposed silence.

As the major players faded into silence, so did the stories that accompanied them. It was the end of an era.

Everyone had retreated into seclusion, and the clouds moved quietly with the wind. Perhaps a storm was brewing, or the sky was just waiting for the sun to rise. Maybe the world was just waiting for the dawn of a new era...

[The End]

Author's Note: I sincerely apologise that this story has to end this way. My health has been terrible these two years, and this is my personal issue to bear. To all my readers, I'm really sorry.

THIS IS AN UTTER SCAM OF A WEBNOVEL! <<less

I nearly did not read this series because of the artwork, so if you feel the same way then be assured and give this novel a try. This is a work by the author of "World of Cultivation." If you are familiar with that, then you would be familiar with the pacing and character development in this series and I would highly recommend it. If not, then read on.

The story's greatness lies in the pacing and character development. So many novels follow a generic formula:

1. MC is poor, MC is... more>> picked on by random village bully. MC trains to fight bully, finds a treasure and wins fight during a tournament. Bully's brother is then mad at MC, etc etc. Repeat shitty cycle of (insert random name) is randomly mad at MC and MC is then motivated to train forever. In this novel, the characters have a background and a temperament fitting their background. There are side characters but they are fleshed out and are not random NPCs with a few lines never to be seen again. The humour is done really well and the world is slowly built as the MC explores it. The MC's body is a mystery and his cultivation techniques do not fit in the mold of the current era - so he has to find unconventional ways to improve himself. As of today, only 32 chapters have been translated but I highly recommend it. <<less

So i've been reading this story for a while now and seeing the unrealistically high ratings which will probably fool a lot of people (like I was). I think it's time for me to review this.

Having read non-wuxia/xianxia on RoyalRoad with amazing world building, almost 0 editing mistakes and interesting and very unique characters with actual character progression. (Everybody loves large chest, The Gam3, arcane emperor, and iron teeth are some I would recommend) I've been having a hard time getting back into the chinese novel scene because of the... more>> same flaws and errors most of their authors make.

Review starts here:

There is nothing even remotely original or 'good' about this story: The pacing is incredibly slow, and filled with regurgitated information dumps, and unnecessary monologues. There has been basically no character progression besides rising in power lvls, there are no relateable or interesting personalities, the world building is suboptimal, but to give it a plus, the author DOES try to atleast make a different cultivation system.

Tl:dr - The story suffers from the same flaws as most chinese webnovels: low quality writing/editing, unoriginality, unnecessary monologues and info dumps. Unrelateable 'cold and calculating' underdog MC, the same character tropes like in A LOT of other stories fx: The fat 'funny' friend, and the beautiful and strong (possible) love interest just to name a few. The story also suffers from 'dragging on the story to meet word count'-syndrome.

I would only give this a chance if you enjoy reading xianxia with poor quality, just to get your fix of the day. Or if you're like me and need a filler you don't have to invest too much into knowing you're gonna drop it at some point. <<less

It's really an amazing novel.

I am ahead of the current translations, so this is my review till where I've read.

Sure, there are a few slow parts in the beginning, but when sh*t finally goes down, boy do we have an epic story. One thing that's amazing is the mystery. His cultivation's a mystery, the reason for the disaster is a mystery, and the world, at present, is a mystery. And, as in all Fang Xiang's novels, the relationships between the characters are fleshed out, realistic, and well described.

The humour adds... more>> much to the story as well.

As another reviewer said, it's easily one of the best novels on this site. Everyone's got to read it. And this isn't even mentioning the fast release rate and really good quality by the translators. The only reason for that abnormal peak of one stars must be because of the QI haters.

Seriously, read it. You won't be disappointed. <<less

[Read until chap 25.]:

lol.

It is really at the level of ‘World of Cultivation’, the other work of the author.

Great humor and great quality.

Although, at the beginning, the story is kind of slow and and the world-building confusing. Now it is getting to be a very enjoying read.

Poor. More Undefeated God of War than World of Cultivation.

I've read both this author's previous works and found that WoC was amazing, while UGoW was complete shit. I had hoped that this novel was of a similar quality to WoC but 300 chapters in it looks like that isn't the case.

Issues:

... more>> Imprecise power levels, (MC is super OP one minute, but then almost dies in every single fight)

underdeveloped power system,

author is unsure of where he wants to go with the story,

FIGHTS FIGHTS FIGHTS (The story begins with a 40-60ch introduction followed by 250+ ch of back to back fights),

author keeps having to weaken the MC (so he stays completely average. He's too OP so he loses a cheat, He's growing too quickly so he gets a curse, etc...)

There's too much to go into depth on, but essentially the story starts out as a cultivation novel but deviates into a fighting only novel a short while in, before deviating again into a random political story. <<less

Okay, so this is a novel which for me changed my view of so many things as an aspiring writer.

  1. First of all, let's kill some wrong ratings that were pretty much based on 40/50 chapters: The MC is absolutely not OP. What people has to understand is that as a person that's been through many life and dead experiences, he's rather calm when facing hard situations compared to all the other "kids" and some adults since all these people are used to live in comfortable places with high social statuses.
  2. The beginning of the story is really good. I was extremely bored at first, because it was pretty much a slice of life, he slowly overcomes normal "cultivation" and is described as a genius, he comes up with "new" methods, which aren't new at all, they're just hard to use and that's why people avoid them, but since he's poor and all by himself he can't help but use those methods. Once the first "arc" is developed, the real plot surfaces and everything does a 180° change. All you've read on the first 100 chapters (more or less) goes down the drain, that world that was so magnificiently built simply dissapears and a new one starts. Thing is, despite all this, it's not "useless" writting or a lot of unnecessary info, because it helps later on to understand certain actions.
  3. ALL characters have different depths, and that usually used young master vs poor guy
    Spoiler

Yeah, it is included but they end up being rivals and respecting each other (well, Ai Hui doesn't respect him at all since he rarely respects someone, but he recognizes him as a friend and a partner)

    [collapse]
  4. The World is amazing, there are so many irrelevant but interesting things that might make the novel slow paced but doesn't make your interest in reading it fade away. In case you find that boring, you should not read this novel, since sometimes a whole chapter can have an explanation about a place, power, plant, animal or whatever that will be mentioned for 2 or 3 more chapters and dissapear. While this can sound like a lot of dump fillers, I feel that it makes you enter the world in a smoother way, I personally like to imagine what I read, and with a more detailed picture of it, things become more real.
In total, this is an amazing novel, and I feel like it's one of the best written ones I've read in my life.

Translation: 5/5 I enjoy a lot reading it, it has a good translator and editor as well. Of course, we're all humans but this work is hard and more in this novel and because of that I feel it deserves a solid 5.

World building: 5

Plot: 5

Plot armor: 2/5: This novel has a plot armor, every single novel has one but the problems our MC faces, are more focused towards his already existing problems. I gave it 2 points, because right now I've only come to see the plot armor saving him twice that I remember.

Character building: 5/5

Fighting: 5/5

FREAKING AMAZING. IF World of Cultivation and A Will Eternal had a baby, then this would be the result. Humorous misunderstandings and money grubber MC = highly enjoyable read. This novel is insanely good, highly recommended. Unfortunately, this is a SIDE project of Alyschu and will only be updated when she has free time (which is a rare occurrence since she has ATG, Spirit Realm, and various other projects). This is BY FAR my favorite out of all of Alyschu's projects. I am trying really hard to not read the... more>> machine translation because it will be great injustice to this brilliant novel. <<less

Eh, reading this was quite interesting. Only 10 chapters in at the moment yet my interest was peaked. Like World of Cultivation (another story by the same author), Five Way Heaven is about a person who seems to have a hand in every little thing. Five Way Heavens seems to be the most recent Fang Xiang story at the moment with less than 200 chapters and constant releases.

The focus of the world’s cultivation arts is in Five Elements which is different from the past. Since spiritual energy has dissipated, the... more>> old style of swords and other cultivation methods fell while the Five Elements method began their rise. Our MC has some knowledge of Sword Cultivation but understands it’s useless due to the current state of the world and is now hoping to increase his understanding of the Five Elements.

Other than that, you have maybe 3 areas. Old Earth which I assume is the dregs and mortal areas of the world. The Savage Territories which, even in the past, had ferocious beasts, savage tribes, and very low spiritual energy. And the Five Way Heaven which is the high-tiered cultivation world and a place everyone in Old Earth wishes to go. Our MC was a person of Old Earth and spent 3 years in the Savage Territories as a high-risk, high-reward s*ave-servant. Making use of the money and the opportunity provided by the excursion, he moves to the Induction Ground to learn and increase his standing in life.

While there may be some parts where you see a bit of Zuo Mo’s desire for money, the story’s focus doesn’t seem to be greed.

And for people wondering why I made this and WoC as a “shared universe”...

Spoiler

In the distant cultivation era, that was when the ten thousand cultivation worlds had not yet merged. In a little sect called the Voidless Sword Clan, there was sword cultivating disciple named Wei Sheng. He had mediocre talent but his final achievements were very high, and he looked down on his competitors.

[collapse]
If you didn’t know, the Wu Kong Sword Clan was basically Voidless or close to that... <<less

This is one of the best novels out there if I were to be completely honest. Unlike what most low rated reviews say about this novel having tons of tropes is not necessarily true. Heck it even goes off the conventional path of story writting and brings up its plot amazingly. The characters actually have personality and doesn't go along with majority of the tropes.

But I want to address the fact that most of the low rated reviews here have absolute bullsh*t reasons as to why they rated this novel... more>> so low. I can understand the info dumps which I agree with and also the fact that a lot of people don't tend to get along with novels with slow pacing but otherwise the infuriating reasoning these guys bring up just makes me want to smash my head into the screen.

Some guy said that this novel is full of tropes and referred to rrl novels such as Arcane Emperor and Everybody Loves Large Chest which rely on their friggin harem and fanservice to keep on the top charted with innumerable amount of tropes I can't even list. Heck, might as well say MGA is amazing in plot writting and should deserve no. 1 spot in novel updates. <<less

(My first review, whoo! I've finally made an account...)

I was sorta unsure whether I would want to continue reading it in the first few chapters, but it quickly caught my interest. It's been a while since I've found something as interesting as this. The author has a lot of other novels that I enjoyed too.

I'm sure other people have said this, but the characters feel real. Their interactions are also well-written. One of the mc's friends is different from what I feel is common in other novels.... more>>

Spoiler

It's Loulan, a Sand Golem, that I feel is super awesome. His interactions with the MC are awesome. Their first battle together... uwu I dunno, but I feel that he'll eventually die or something... it's just a feeling.

[collapse]

The irony in the story is funny. The fight scenes are detailed. More importantly, the setting is different from most cultivation novels. FWH is labeled as a sequel for WOC (brilliant novel, btw), and you can really understand why it is. Spiritual power went POOF, but they still have elemental power~~~ MC is also untalented, but he's innovative (the tag haha).

Spoiler

I could've sworn there was a reference to WOC too... Was it Wei Sheng who was briefly mentioned? Eh.

What I not like at most when I read novels?

Two main things

  1. First and most important is - when MC strength drop and up by will of author and slow down or even rollback MC leveling progress or even roll back it. In most cases reason of this creative impotence of author. To impress readers he throw bone for them fast level up MC. BUT because leveling on location is limited and he too lazy to create new max levels and new locations author just nerf MC. I always fell like I was cheated when author do such things.
  2. Pathetic drama. There is not many words to say. Pathetic drama is pathetic drama. Illogical s*upid and created for its just existence or cover story black holes
And end of first act is illustration of both principles. So 1/5.

This novel had great potential. Sadly it did not meet up to it; too many flaws.

    1. (Money-Hungry) The MC originated from the slums. It is 'okay' to originate the MC, but the author overdoes the MC's personality on this. Because he is from the slum, he is a money-who*e and has no stability mentally when it comes to money. The personality is very over used to get out of situations and used for humor which I do not find funny at all.
    2. (MC is not a genius? Okay...) The author inputs the MC as 'not being a genius', but in a point of view of every single character, as well as comparing them, the MC is obviously a 'genius'. I do not know why the author says the MC is not a genius, but I guess it's fine. If the author does not know the character he creates, then so be it. The only thing that the MC is not 'considered a genius' is that he has poor latency/aptitude of training in elemental energy, but later in the novel, he has higher cultivation than his peers... The MC is considered unique because he uses a swordmanship but is considered weak because his level of cultivation is not high. But his strength level is as strong as [or stronger than] any other geniuses in the NL. I do not know why he's not a genius.
    3. (Can I laugh too?) In the beginning, the story had no plot, he basically created the characters and had no thought to it. The main character has no objective besides to get strong to get 'rich'. He just wants money, and basically everything he can do, can get him money. The author tries to make the story funny or humorous by putting him in a huge debt situation and many conflicts with many characters which I thought wasn't funny at all. People say it's funny, but the humor is too raw. The humor is forced and he uses the same joke quite a bit of time. Out of all of the 'jokes/humor' the author input up to chapter 375, I only laughed once, from a recent chapter.
    4. (Terrible plot introduction) Because the NL had no real plot, the introduced plot was too abrupt and too conflicting. The LN was not developed enough to introduce a plot. To me how it seemed like was, the author ran out of 'slice-of-life story' in which he had to do something to continue the story. He threw in random characters to make the story flow into the 'plot-twist' (not really).
    5. (Too many characters and problems of plot execution) The author brought in too many characters and gave too many point of views, creating too many details to the plot. The plot should only signify its means to explain the reader the problem, not to explain every single detail to know the problem of the plot itself. The idea and problem of this book is too easy to predict because it just gives it to you immediately before the problem is executed. The author gives point of views of NEW characters but then throws them away or never uses them again. Like... why do we need to know every single name of a character that's going to be thrown away when they're not going to be used again like every 30 chapters (Zzz)...
    6. (Enemies too OP) So the enemies were introduced in the 'abrupt plot'. They're basically like zombies but different. At least they have a conscience. The enemies have the easiest concept of winning every single fight but, somehow it's not possible
      Spoiler

Somehow enemies' blood cannot get onto the main characters (conspiracy *kappa*) / strong characters and the MC will know almost every single weakness of them. Supposedly this conflict has been going on for a while

      [collapse]
It made me think 'why create this kind of plot' (enemy can wipe out the considered 'good side', but they do it a step-by-step). Also, somehow there is no cure for this 'zombie-state' occurrence.
    7. (Very in-dept explanation of training: Slow/Boring) The author writes out like a whole entire chapter over something I not want to know. He goes very specific into to learning to basis of power or cultivation. Every time the MC is cultivating, he gives out every single detail of his conscience which I find the story to bore every time this occurs. I don't mind the fact that the MC trains like 70% of the book, but the fact that he's explaining every single detail is really boring.
    8. (How's the action? Meh) This book is more slice-of-life than anything. The book goes more into relationships more than fighting. The action doesn't really stick out to me, but the slice-of-life does. The author conveys his means of actions terribly. While the MC is fighting, in the middle of the fight or before he 'loses' (results to winning), he gives the MC a random 'breakthrough' every single time. He does not give the MC a losing fight. If he does, he'll randomly have a breakthrough in strength or someone stronger will interrupt. In a general sense, the fight is okay, but it is the same thing over and over.
This novel for sure had great potential, except the author threw it away. I am still reading because it is at least interesting enough to make me read it. I wish the author was more organized and more consistent.

Got to read it to see the good parts.

Don't get me wrong. The novel does have good points... but just too many noticeable flaws.

  • Characters: 2.5/5
  • Plot: 2/5
    • introduction/execution: 1/5
  • Conflict: 1/5
  • Story (flow) : 2/5
  • Enjoyment: 1/5
  • Interest: 3/5
Overall: 2/5

There isn't really any long term objective. It seems more of a slice of life than anything else. I barely see any real comedy, you may see some attempts but nothing special. I really don't get how people can give this 5 and that's why I had expectation for this but it's nothing great as what people are saying it out to be. Amazing. Good pacing, world makes sense, characters are humourous. Never heard of this story before, read it all in one sitting. Easily in the top 10 stories on this site, maybe even top 5 but it would be crowded. Read this story, there is no excuse. It's not overly serious, it's not overly comical. It's not overly ATG-like (if that makes sense). Reminds me a lot of God of Thunder and Instant Kill, those two are also really good.

This needs to be picked up again, it's so good.

Good character development, motivations and pacing, rare traits in novels these days. The MC's OPness is well restrained and believable enough in the context of the story, no nonsensical superpowers that came out of nowhere just to make him the best at everything, he has to actually work for it and the end result isn't excessive. Characters also have personalities and lives, they don't feel like one dimensional faceless fodder, although there are many cliche moments, its still bearable.

Not entirely flawless, but there aren't many better novels.

Hopefully this doesn't go... more>> the way of the author's previous work, world of cultivation, and turn into a horrible mess in the later chapters. This has started out even better than WoD, so I'm holding out hope. <<less
