Ling Xiao was secretly in love with a girl named Mo Qi; because of an accident, they both crossed into the ancient times.

Mo Qi who was preinstalled with the Mary Sue halo, in these ancient times, walked to the summit with a golden finger.

However, Ling Xiao continued to be exploited by Mo Qi.

After he no longer had any values to exploit, he soon became a pitiful cannon fodder.

The heavens decided to take pity on Ling Xiao.

And gave Ling Xiao an opportunity for rebirth.

After rebirth, he vowed that all his enemies would repay him with a debt of blood!

However, why have all these enemies of his, fallen into the mode of cutting their heads open?

“Hey, are you really that unremarkable person who used to follow behind Mo Qi?”

“So this dance was originally danced by you, sigh……”

“You are obviously a man, yet you move me so much.”

“Enough! Since you have taken the initiative to provoke me, then you must concentrate on me!”

Ling Xiao expressed: If you want to counterattack, then counterattack. As long as your golden finger is bigger than Mo Qi’s.

But how did Mo Qi’s Mary Sue halo end up in his body! He is still a straight man who likes beauties! He definitely, definitely doesn’t want to turn bent!

I finished the raws because I liked the novel so much.

We don't see much 'good' BL novels, and this was one that really caught my eyes.

Spoiler

I love how there are a lot of 'spicy' parts in the novel and they did do it multiple times. The MC and the main male lead is what the novel focuses on with 2 other male leads. Though I kinda did like the general the most, it's fine.....

Oh and for the spicy parts, in case anyone wanted to know.... it's mid-c54, mid-c65, end-c67, and near end-c70, and c71.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The ending was alright, I guess the author wrapped it up nicely considering how she fixed any of the 'problems' that had occur in the novel. The last chapter had a time skip/fast forward, so it gave the readers a nice scene.

I figure I might as well rate this novel myself, being my first completed translation.

Personally I would give it a 3.5/5 (extra.5 because I did spend my time translating it >_>). When I started translating it, compared to all the other older ones being translated, it was a special gem, but not one of the best out there untranslated. It isn't one of the worst ones either, just average enough to pass time. (Now more BL novels are coming out so I honestly expect the ratings to fall after comparing... more>> this to the newer ones.)

To be completely honestly, I picked it up on a whim based solely on title. And thus, I started the very first Cannonfodder Stories. Hahaha, being the starter of a certain troupe is kinda interesting.

Story wise, it is an ancient setting. I know some people don't like how the ML acts, but quite honestly as the Emperor, I expect him to act that way to some extent. This is a rather light hearted one compared to most of the ancient-setting novels set for bl.... There are quite a few plot holes here and there, the author never really properly fills out the background of the setting and stuff, and it seems like she adds things as she writes when she remembers she needs it. (Cough country name cough Emperor name cough)

As for the "villain", she is rather bland and 2D, we only know her shallow intentions and don't learn much about her at all. Well, we don't know either of their background in general as they are just dumped in the new setting like most transmigration novels. But it's fine, this isn't meant to be some deep and emotional scheming mu*der mystery, it's more of a self-satisfaction type novel (aka facesmaking novels). So I'm honestly glad this author didn't go the super drama route and drag things out forever and it was a rather minimal drama that was quickly resolved.

As for the MC himself, yes he does have a rather doormat personality but what can you expect someone dumped in a situation where his head can go flying at any moment? His first death likely left some kind of trauma on him too. But he doesn't use his doormat personality all the time, he does act rather tyrannical in the appropriate times (against servants lower than him). I facepalm at those MC that still act all high and might in front of someone that can kill them within a single order instead... He is a bit of an indecisive person but once he settles his choice he sticks to it pretty well. I just say he has more common sense and observation skills to at least survive in the palace for a good while.

It is a rather short novel, and I know some people are rather unsatisfied with how short it was, but I think it was a rather nice place to stop for the author. If she had wrote any long it might just turn into more filler cringy stuff and some of the flaws would be even more transparent...

(Why do I feel like I went onto a rant somewhere... Meh) <<less

I'm so grateful to translators who pick up some good BL titles to introduce to us.

The story is entertaining and keeps your interest. The MC is not exactly the type I like (ruthless, cold-blooded, and expressionless), but he's also not the type I dislike (s*upid, victim-complex). He's cute and quick to fold to power (a certain emperor), but he's also smart and has his priorities straight. I think most readers will like him.

The plot is mostly easy-going, without excessive drama. It will put you in a good mood.

I can't. I just can't.

I love reading bl as much as the next fujoshi, but this one is just not my cup of tea or coffee.

First off, the MC is suppose to be clever and full of schemes as the tags suggest..... nah. The MC may have started out with an average human's IQ, but then it quickly deteriorated into an afraid-of-death-but-still-h**ny-for-ML type of attitude. Basically, our MC turns into a love-struck idiotic fool by the end of the story with no resemblance of the cleverness the MC showed in... more>> the beginning. There was no character development for the MC, instead I would say he even regressed back to childhood with no brains other than hogging his favorite toy (the ML).

In terms of side characters, they actually have some depth/background to them. The second male leads have the quality to actually replace the MC and ML as the main couple. The ML is the Emperor/ice cube/facial paralysis type of character which would have been fine, but his personality resembles too much of the ML from A Mistaken Marriage Match: Mysteries in the Imperial Harem. If any one has read that book, you'll understand what I mean because the ML from both of these novels are literally the same; egotistical, short tempered, violent, and basically just an a**hole.

Overall, this novel was very disappointing because I was expecting a clever/smart MC (did not need to be a genius, but at least an average IQ), but ended up with a ret*rded fool. For those who like iceberg MLs, braindead MCs, angsty moments, and loving second male leads that should have taken over the ML's role, I recommend to give this novel a try. <<less

To read or not to read?

At first, I hesitated to start this novel because, after reading the reviews, I thought that the novel focused too much on revenge on the evil female lead, Mo Qi. However, now that I've started it, I only regret that I didn't try this series sooner.

It's good. The plot is solid, the pacing is good, the translation is excellent, the cast of characters is well-developed, and the amount of BL is just right. It's got a bit of everything fun -- transmigration, reincarnation, (almost)... more>> gender-bending, court intrigue, revenge, reverse-harem, and a little bit of good ole yaoi.

If you're debating about which LN to start reading next, give this one a try. I don't think you'll regret it.

Summary:

This novel has a unique double-reincarnator as the main character. Ling Xiao and Mo Qi, the girl he was in love with, died in modern times and were both transmigrated into a Chinese historical fantasy world. Ling Xiao sacrificed everything to follow Mo Qi and help her achieve happiness over the course of 10 years. In the end, Mo Qi used her Mary Sue halo to gain power, riches, and a harem of men, and Ling Xiao was betrayed by her and poisoned to death. Now reincarnated into his younger self in the past, he is determined to get revenge, free himself from her shadow, and live a full, unfettered life.

After his unfortunate demise, he first awakens during the time shortly after they first entered the imperial palace -- when Mo Qi and one of her male followers knocked him unconscious and sent him to become a eunuch. (Males are not allowed to be near the imperial harem.) In the original timeline, he forgave her, but now he escapes and pretends to be a eunuch servant while "hanging onto the leg" of the emperor for protection. This introduces another unique part of the plot: besides merely surviving, Ling Xiao also has to hide the fact that he is still "intact" despite the emperor's growing interest in him.

Thoughts:

One of the best things about this novel is the main character. Ling Xiao has a very realistic personality -- skilled and level-headed after 10 years of service and betrayal, but still bitter, hot-tempered, and nervous in new situations. He brings his years of experience and some knowledge of future events, but he has no over-powered skills or abilities. He is rational and ruthless without being unrealistically cold and perfect like many other transmigrated/reincarnated main characters. I particularly like how he is self-confident without being too arrogant or too humble.

The other characters are also good -- the emperor is a great example of being highly perceptive and unfathomable, but not too omniscient or overbearing. The much-hated Mo Qi is loathsome as expected, but she's not any worse than the usual spoiled female villain and she doesn't take center stage in the story (I was worried about that).

The translation is particularly well-done, not just in the usual grammar/English, but also in the way the sentences are written to really capture the feeling and excitement in the story. It is very easy and enjoyable to read.

I will update this review after more chapters are released.

Update (Completed) :

This novel is already finished being translated, the chapters just need finals edits. So you can actually read to the end even though not all the chapters are on NovelUpdates.

I've changed my rating to 4 stars because of the latter half of the story. Basically, this novel had a strong start with compelling characters and an intelligent and realistic MC. However, towards the end of the story, both the MC and Emperor seem to become more and more irrational and two-dimensional. By the last chapter, I no longer liked ANY of the characters, including the main character. This doesn't mean that it's a bad novel overall, it just lost a lot of its charm at the end. <<less

Beginning was ok, but then I just became really disappointing in the novel. MC was supposed to be smart, but how come what he does makes no sense?? ML remains your typical short tempered violent ice cube emperor type. I didn't like the relationship dynamic between them. ML had too much power, and for most of the novel the MC is always scared he will inadvertently offend the emperor and lose his little life... which is a legit concern. How can you have a trusting fulfilling relationship when one person... more>> has all the power, including the power to take your life on whim. It just really felt like an abusive relationship dynamic, where the MC always has to be careful of what he says and does in case the ML get's angry. That's not the type of relationship I want to read about.
Spoiler

Also, the MC wanting to disperse the harem at the end, while is sounds cute, it's just not that realistic. I know no one's here for the realism, but come on. The laws of the novel universe still have to be taken into account. If the emperor is smart (and we're made to believe that the ML is basically omniscient), why did he disperse the harem just because the MC wanted him for himself?

[collapse]
. Plus at the end I got really annoyed with the MC (I was always kind of low key annoyed with the ML because he's such an ice block with no character besides being emotionally unpredictable and violent). MC just became a brat and it's hard to believe he was the same character from the beginning of the book. MC should have gotten together with Lan Wei tbh. They would have made a much better couple. <<less

With a doormat personality, the MC originally died after the girl he loved ran out of use for him. Reborn and just as eager to serve, he redirects his doormat skills towards the ML instead. Watching her struggle without him, MC then realises that the biggest cheat his crush had was him and manages to take all her love interests now that she can't claim credit for his actions. While the ML was the one person who was interested in him in both lives, having seen his true worth (and... more>> not at all bothered by all the shady deeds the MC did in the background for his crush). What the ML seems to like is the MC's single-minded dedication and honesty, though when push comes to shove, the MC stills values his life more.

It's a cute story and easy to read, but it lacks depth. The MC reads like a passive and submissive servant who just needs the right master to follow, which is good because the ML is a strict but upright guy, while the female villain really isn't all that without the MC's support and is just there to be sneered at and manipulated. 7/10 <<less

In the last chapter MC became one of the concubine's friend (the girl was great) ML became jealous, told MC he was being disrespectful... MC was made and told him something like if you can have a harem then why can't I have a friend? They quarrel a bit then MC is like if you really love me then J want you to disperse your harem. ML says it seems like a loved you a bit too much... he literally chocked MC. He was gonna kill him, the dude literally did 't want to stop. Then he ordered his guards to not let MC out. Ge slept with one of his concubines some then disperse him harem but still refuse to apologize. At the end they are rolling in the sheets like nothing happened at all

Soooo... This started out interesting and great! I loved the intrigue the pacing was good, the Emperor and MC were getting close, but MC was also doing all this cloak and dagger shit. It was fun. Then it stopped because at some point the lies piled up so high that anyone with the common sense of a house fly could tell it wouldn't end well. And then the MC left, and I thought, oh! they gonna spend some time apart? Maybe meet again later and grow close again?
No. Emperor... more>> just lets him go for a bit and then goes to get him and crushes an entire country in the process. I felt so bad for the prince of that country, even though as a love interest he too was kind of tr*sh. Also why do all the guys somehow look at MC like he's a girl even though author made clear he was unmistakably masculine? What is with this, 'oh he looks weak, I'm turned on' shit??? It was so interesting and then just turned to shit. So very disappointing. >__<

Also friends???? Could MC and emperor and everyone not have friends??? You know, healthy relationships that don't exclusively revolve around power dynamics? I mean I guess I can understand in the emperor's case, but everyone else?? Why does nobody have any friends?!

Oh, and MC gets drugged and then r*ped by the emperor. He falls for him anyway. ¯_ (ツ) _/¯ <<less

Really interesting and cool... At first.

Pros:

  • smart modern MC
  • cool and cold ML
  • good plot
  • Gradual build
  • Slow romance
  • Awkward moments
  • 3D characters
Cons:

  • MC becomes a smart modern guy to a weak flower that is sickly to a hot headed pepper
  • ML is always making MC scared and drug r*ped him
  • MC can't love ML or else it's Stockholm syndrome
  • Mo Qi and MC have a confusing situation of double rebirth etc etc
  • Lan Wei cannot love MC and become bent just bc MC saved him?
  • ML.... How can he love MC? MC acts s*upid around ML
  • My shipping of Fu Yujan x Ling Xiao died... Even tho MC was super smart and wasn't scared of Yujan and Yujan gave him choices instead of raping him.
  • Mo Qi comes back alive
  • ML has always loved MC the entire time bullsh*t bc of his "real name"
  • And MY SHIP DIED IN A FIERY NUKE BOMB.
So yeah... I reccomend reading to the point of MC with Fu Yujan battling Fu Yujan's bro and then imagining them both killing ML and then becoming best bros until MC finally accepts Fu Yujan's proposal. *nosebleed*

Sometimes its good and sometimes its not that good but the MC's personality or rather his intelligence and how he handles everything and how he reacts toward some events and leads him to thinking that he will die, makes the story lovely and laughable. One one the rare good BL novels with a storyline and the characters nevel lose their character and personality making ang novel not misleading to the readers.

And there's one thing that I really want to ask:

If you loved beauties, then why the heck are you being... more>> aroused by just being touched by the emperor.... aren't you already bent? ????? <<less

Short review-

MC when ML does literally anything : " your.... your majesty" * instantly combusts and forgets that ML is psycho*

ML when MC is trying to stablish any type of boundaries : " I'm gonna pretend I didn't see that "*literally abuses MC and everyone that matters to him*

Extra comments - second lead, fu yujun (out of this whole novel I only remember his name and boi oh boi if that doesn't say anything about the character writing of this piece) is the only one who has an actual personality... more>> and character development, if he really worked some parts of his personality he would be a very good person to MC. But I guess MC prefers the no personality, psycho, abusive and mu*derer type. This novel had such a great potential but then it slapped me with a wet sock filled with lied and said " u like well developed characters and a natural romance? This story is so bad. Originally, I wanted to give it a 2.5, but then I read, or rather skimmed ahead, and it just got worse for me.

a lot of the time, I can toss away logic pretty easily for a good book. Not so with this one. When you're supposedly smart and doing s*upid things, you're technically an idiot with a brain some of the time. There were so many chances the MC had to do the smart thing, you know, with all his smarts, and he ended up... more>> doing the dumb thing instead. I felt like crying for him sometimes, he was so s*upid. Someone who hates lies knows you're lying but you stick to your lie, fearing when you're caught in that lie you'll die.

in a way, this novel read like an old harlequin novel, a not very nice one, but with some of that Chinese charm that has me looking for good translated novels. This is not a good one, but people tend to have different opinions, and this MC might appeal to some. Just not me. <<less

I hate the feeling of having been cheated by the introduction. The introduction had a comedic undertone where it suggested the MC's rebirth would be one where the counterattack would be secondary to inadvertently turning the FL Mo Qi's original harem targets bent under the same halo she had before rebirth. Which gave me the impression that this story would be quite fluffy and warm despite having some dog blood palace schemes and melodrama.

However, this is actually not the case. The story starts with the MC as an avrg IQ... more>> modern guy transmigrating with his 10 year long crush Mo Qi from his original world into ancient China where he falls victim under Mo Qi's Mary Sue halo. The outcome of his 10 yr pining + the halo = blind loyal dog and spare tire. He acted as her dark knight and umbrella letting her have a smooth journey to the "peak of life" becoming the empress with his help, but finding him unpleasing after squeezing out his worth Mo Qi personally poisoned him "burning down the bridge after crossing it". It turns out under the Mary Sue halo the "green tea b*tch" Mo Qi gave off the impression of a white lotus and became the poor fool of MC's white moonlight.

Mo Qi like a vengeful ghost is then reborn into the past this time with the sole intention to counterattack against Mo Qi by causing her downfall! Until this part I was actually quite appreciative of this novel, yet as the story goes on many flaws started appearing in the MC's character making me lose respect for him. Although I do consider the MC an idiot for loving this superficial girl for 10 years, even without the halo and still not seeing through her character, I wanted to believe he would become smarter after the experience.

What I get instead is the MC becoming hell-bent on revenge a life-for-a-life counterattack. The FL Mo Qi has a disgusting character, she is selfish, superficial, manipulative, she even has airs of grandeur despite having no power. The MC sadly also becomes a disgusting person with a hidden vendetta, he purposefully pitting the FL with his "advice", not disguising his hate for her. He even helps her commit dirty deeds just to further incriminate her by exposing her to the emperor. The MC has terrible acting skills and his unsightly intentions leak out like an open book. This often gives him away in front of the emperor (ML) his behavior often ingratiating and fearful. His "crafty" schemes end up resembling that of a jealous lowly concubine. Instead, the MC's willful actions often drag the emperor into predicaments and ruins his plans... Turn out the emperor is only using Mo Qi as a pawn and smoke screen? Yet the MC knowing this is unsatisfied and extremely impatient to get his revenge.

I actually started reading this seeing it was short and had high reviews but overall the MC has become someone petty and cannon fodderish and his relationship to the ML is alienated and built up on lies.. The MC isn't even smart enough to see he's been seen through. So, unless you like this kind of brainless revenge then you can read it but this novel left a sour taste in my mouth. I originally have a very low bottom line for BL novels, but I'm just going to drop it. Bye <<less

So I just finished this and I'm just really freaking confused by the reviews this story has. Everyone's saying that the ML, the emperor, is uncompromising and abusive while the MC is unreasonable and doesn't make sense, but I'm standing over here, just like, 'um, no, it's the COMPLETE OPPOSITE.'

Spoiler

The conversation the MC, Ling Xiao, has with the emperor's uncle basically sums up the ML's actions. He's the emperor and he's giving up a lot of power and control by compromising with Ling Xiao and it's pretty freaking unbelievable that the emperor would be willing to go so far for him. And Ling Xiao internalizes very deeply which is why his actions are so inconsistent. LX is confident, but he knows he's not invincible. In a setting like the one he's in, the emperor has pretty much absolute power, but not completely, he's only the emperor because everyone else says he is. For both the MC and ML the risks are a lot higher if there's someone who's determined to bring them down...

Concerning the part where the ML strangles the MC, I think a lot of people misunderstand it tbh. The ML said that his bottom line was for the MC to remember that he's his man which is what he got mad over. The interaction between the MC and the concubine seems pretty innocent to us because we know the MC didn't mean anything about it, but consider how it would look if was from the outside. Seriously, even through my eyes as a reader it felt really freaking flirty and that violated the ML's bottom line. LX really should have known better, that if he wanted to have a female friend, he'd have to make it absolutely clear that it's purely platonic.

I'm not saying it's a good thing the ML used violence towards the MC, but it was a reaction, not an intent and that isn't what I would call abuse. Again, it's not a good thing that he used violence, but it's not something that makes him a bad partner. The fact that he stopped even when he though his bottom line was violated really says something. That he's trying to understand, that he really wants to be with the MC. And the MC probably knew that.

I'm not saying it's an acceptable reaction, just an understandable one. In this story it only happens once so I'm willing to let it off.

If anyone thinks the MC's reaction to the strangling was strange, I say consider the facts a bit. The MC has always been absolutely terrified of the ML and when his worst nightmare became reality and didn't end in his death? That was probably a lot more reassuring than words could be.

Going back to the MC's actions, when you consider his goals, they really do make sense. The MC was with Mo Qi, the FL, for over 10 years, working in the shadows for her every whim. And for all that work and devotion, he gets poisoned by her. If you don't think that's a reasonable explanation to hate someone, there was also the fact that he helped her despite her having someone kidnap him and cut off his g**italia without his consent.

He, especially, knows her personality and what seems to have started as simply a reluctance to interact with her formed into full on hatred and mu*derous intent the more he did interact with her.

The MC only started to interact with the ML to gain more power so it's not strange that the MC lied to him even when he knew the emperor hated it in order to protect his secret...

[collapse]

The story is definitely not perfect, but it's pretty good. What the MC knows he takes advantage of the best he can and what he doesn't know, he naturally doesn't know. And if that causes this things to get out of control, he deals with it the best he can.
Spoiler

I do admit that the MC's knowledge of modern weapons/inventions seems a bit deus ex machina esq, and it seems weird he didn't use it the first time, but if you think about it, it's understandable. It's not like he was trying to become rich or famous or need to do meritorious deeds before he died the second time. Still seems like a d.e.m. to me though considering how long it's been, it's hard to believe he'd still remember it all with so much accuracy.

[collapse]

Concerning the r*pe tag, I don't know if this story really deserves it. Maybe it does? It's a lot more dubious considering
Spoiler

the MC kind of dug his own grave in this instance. Like, he never out right states the fact that he doesn't want to have s*x to the emperor, and it's the situation that forced him to imply that he actually does want to have s*x with the emperor rather than his own personal wants.

It's still pretty iffy because the emperor probably figured out the situation and did Ling Xiao anyways, but I can't say for sure because we never got to see the emperor's perspective. It's entirely possible that the emperor thought that Ling Xiao wanted it considering the things that led up to it.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. In this case, damned if he does reject s*x because then he'd be executed, and damned if he doesn't reject s*x because then he'd be f*cked. He was forced to choose the latter option.

[collapse]

I personally don't love this story, the thought of rereading this a year and some months later is unpleasant, but that's mostly because of the thought of the supporting male leads. The relationship between the MC and the ML really left a big impression on me. I think it's because this is the first that gives a taste of what it actually takes for an emperor to go against the expectations of his people so obviously for the sake of his own desires. The ML is quite impressive in that regard. <<less

It's hard to find bl novels that have interesting stories. This one so far is interesting enough with the historical tag, future just desserts and accidental seduction lol.

Spoiler

The MC is smart and knows how to maneuver enough in the ancient political scene that he can move up. I have to admit that it is kind of off-putting that he is so far submissive but well what can one really do in front of the emperor? At least he knows how not to die. He's an admirable somewhat Machiavellian character. I am looking forward to seeing how he'll carry out his actions in the future and endear himself further in the eyes of the emperor hahaha.

I really really liked it in the beginning but near the end I don't know wtf happened, how could our MC just switch to a shithead like that..

Hmm but anyway I don't regret reading it, for the most part it's a really good novel!

This was an okay novel. I always enjoy transmigration/revenge novels like these and it never disappoints me on how the plot flows.

Spoiler

The story towards the end were too simple (but I like it neways). Especially the dispersion of the harem and the crown prince (this was so genius hahaha)

Spoiler

The beginning to middle part of the story had depth but towards the ending it just focused on them as main couple. It's fine to me.

But there were some things bothered me.
Spoiler

The way LX talk to the imperial uncle bothers me. He's way TOO carefree. I mean he is your lover's father hello?!

I do enjoy the book but near the end, ML - the Emperor really got my nerve.

It starts very leisurely with MC - Ling Xiao absolute victory over Mo Qi, until the Emperor starts his moves. I love the descriptions that many Ling Xiao admirers come up with about him: sulking kitten, bristled kitten, clawed kitten, puffing hamster, proud kitten, this-is-mah-territory tiger (this is the true joy for me throughout the book). However, I feel the Emperor's action near the end is too out of boundary. Thank goodness MC is... more>> very clever, lovable and sensible enough that he still get to keep his life until the end.

Story: Quite fast pacing especially when Lan Wei is revealed to fall for Ling Xiao and by the end where Ling Xiao is basically on period mood swings; angry, sad, sulking, depressed, being teaser, demanding, baam genius inventor of the century, threatening, seducing, lovey-dovey, forgiving, the end (lol, it is too much for me and I feel to put "the end" there is too abrupt. The extra don't even count much). Ok, I admit, I'm just bitter about
Spoiler

the Emperor action of strangling Ling Xiao, WITH HIS OWN HAND! And no verbal apologize. Too much! Even as a monarch, he had given Ling Xiao equal standing in front of his subjects (treats LX like him), had even verbally promise LX that he doesn't have bottom line regarding LX as long as LX knows who is his man! And LX requests of dispersing harem is basically due to him come to true term that the Emperor is his own man! The irony. He even comes to a breath away from death, again, because of the Emperor's hand. Before, I still can stomach Emperor action, but after this even if he disperse harem I feel like I can't accept his action and trust him. He become no.1 example of hypocrite spouse. I had always feel like Ling Xiao can lost his life any moment when he faced the Emperor but it can be accepted as they're not officially married, honest and open with each other. But when the damn strangulation happened, they've passed all that but still the Emperor proved to us that Ling Xiao can never be of equal to him. With only a lift of his hand, Ling Xiao is proven can go to the spring. Pity.

[collapse]

What I come to realize after finishing up to the extra tid bits is; Ling Xiao isn't in love with mortal but God. The author truly make him as one. With how 'his lover' knows everything up until even his life or death is in 'his lover' hands.
Spoiler

I even speculated that Ling Xiao rebirth/travel back to time is to compensate the Emperor that missed his chance with him due to Mo Qi scheming, not because Ling Xiao himself and Mo Qi rebirth is because the Emperor wants Ling Xiao to finish her himself since the original beheaded by Emperor and the second one poisoned by again the Emperor. It truly makes Emperor the son of Heavens and I don't like it.

I feel jittery everytime Ling Xiao and the Emperor confronting each other. Though I enjoy the way Emperor views LX, the cutie kitten and their lovey dovey moment but honestly, it never seems equal and healthy. I rather like Fu Yujun way of loving Ling Xiao before the war. He teases and teases, threaten and give leeway, push and pull when deems necessary. Too bad he is not the ML and his ending is so pitiful. I even like Lan Wei (though he is supporting character that seems shallow as the author didn't put enough effort in his character development). Lan Wei knows where he stands, the limit. But that didn't deter him from protecting MC from afar, physically or emotionally. He is always there and it might be due to him never professes his love towards MC to anyone that makes him grounded to the ground and stays clear-headed with MC. Truly remarkable when we look deeper into his character. His parting words to MC at the end makes me even fonder of his character.

There. All in all, I still enjoy reading this. I deduct 1 star for the ML himself. If only the author soften his character a tiny bit and not make me feel like MC is walking on a thin slice of ice until the end. Author didn't give enough attention to certain event, making it seems shallow but with a bit pondering, it can reverse the effect. I start this book without seeing the tags, so it is a pleasant surprise to know it is MxM. The premise of it is a man taking revenge to his once beloved person is what propel me to read it and I'm not regretting it. I love this MC very much! <<less

The hatred is real. Xiao Ling and Mo Qi hate each other with a passion and go to great lengths to kill or screw each other over. This is not some half-hearted hatred where they stop last-minute, so it's really nice to see such ruthless characters in action. That said, Xiao Ling is a total softy to anyone who isn't Mo Qi, which is one of his charm points. He is cunning and full of expression.

Unfortunately, now that he is no longer overshadowed by Mo Qi, Xiao Ling has accidentally... more>> seduced a couple of emperors. Seeing as his objectives are to 1) kill Mo Qi and 2) escape with his life and testicles intact, this is a huge problem.

This is a very funny series, so I recommend it to anyone who likes comedy.

However, I wish Xiao Ling and Mo Qi had more time together, and we got to see more depth from Mo Qi's character. I'm not cheering for any romantic couples either. I like seeing Xiao Ling free and causing trouble on his own.

Spoiler

We also hardly know anything about how these two were in an "accident" that sent them to the past. Are they from a sci-fi future, where things like time travel and magic-like things are possible? Are they actually fantastical creatures that only recently developed the ability to fall through time? Are the two of them destined to be reborn together again and again? I hope the series answers these questions in the remaining chapters. We know hardly anything about their lives before falling back in time.

[collapse]

EDIT: Upon completing the series after taking a break from it for five years, I only recommend reading the first half and then quitting. None of the plot holes are filled in, and the series just focuses on theMC's abusive relationship with the emperor, which involves everything from manipulation to isolation to r*pe to attempted mu*der. Like before, I cannot support this couple or their violent and abusive relationship. If you are here for romance, then I recommend reading a different series instead.

I dropped my rating from 4/5 to 3/5. The comical, intense hatred between the MC and antagonist was the best part of this series. <<less
