His will is tough and he is unwilling to be normal. However, his pathway was destined to be that way, being born in a small sect’s branch.

However, one day, his left eye merges with the eye of an Ancient God in an accident. From that moment on, he turns from a fish into a dragon.

He rises up like a star, walking the path of a legendary cultivator.

From being a tiny, small ant at the bottom of the world, he rises step by step, into a place full of powerful sects, strong ancient clans and countless geniuses.

This is an era of legends.

Mindless and generic. Very fast advancement with little exposition. MC uses archery but don't expect anything original.

Extremely generic weak to strong cultivation novel (at least so far). While IMHO it is progressing from weak to super-OP very quickly the chapters are still quite an enjoyable read. The translation thus far is excellent; none of that barely readable English MTL stuff that pops up from time to time.

Bottom line: Good Saturday morning junk food novel to binge on then forget for a month or so.

I like this novel. This is not for people who like under powered character taking out someone stronger with techique. This is for the weak that want to rise up and become strong. As many have written before, this novel does not have a strong beginning. I do say that it is enjoyable if you can get past that.

King of Gods in general isn't bad, although some specific parts leave me rolling my eyes and sighing because of the overused notions. Also, if you feel like binge reading, King of Gods is good to pass the time. If you're new to reading novels like this, then go ahead, although it's not the best out there. If you're sick of repeated stuff, hate too overpowered MC's that never lose, or any romance, then you should keep searching mate.

Spoiler

The beginning was stale. The concept of the MC's talent to be mediocre and then him suddenly receiving something that boosts his potential is used in too many novels to count with my fingers. Not to mention the kids his age picking on him and being defeated by him afterwards as a result of his new power.

The MC's personality underwent a change from rash and immature to calm and a bit cold, which was fortunate since I wasn't attracted to the way he originally acted and was ready to drop the story if he kept at the way he did. He gets overpowered while jumping through the ranks and coincidentally faces even tougher opponents who for some reason feel it's absolutely necessary to fight with him while being naively overconfident. Disregarding the fact that the MC never loses a single fight and his outstanding luck keeps benefiting him in every single way possible, the story gets a bit less cliche.

At some point in the story the MC's clingy childhood friend, Yufei, develops a superiority complex and useless feelings for him as she notices the gap in between their strengths. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the romance is pretty shit... (but it doesn't bother me since I honestly think romance in a martial arts story is annoying.) The MC somehow gets himself into a marriage with another girl, and just before he escapes the marriage, he decides to make the decision of promising to come back and marry her when he gets some time to. (Dumbass.)

Later on, Yufei gets more formidable while seeing the MC as an obstacle she has to surpass, (which gets on my nerves because she's receiving more and more benefits to power herself up in order to become stronger than the MC, and still has that s*upid superiority complex while the MC doesn't even try that hard against her in their fights and is a good sport about it.)

I have more complaints about the story to express, but they're noticeably more opinionated than what can actually be said as a fact so my rant is over. 3/5 since I've read too many novels that contain the same cliche parts to the point where reading it is painful, and because the love interests are irritating- not that I liked romance in the first place anyway, haha.

A pretty inoffensive cultivation novel, this is about as close to generic as it's possible to get. A main character who's perfectly serviceable. World building close to the industry standard. The usual early cheat item. Enemies who are... there, and have the usual jealousy/greed motives. This is roughly on par with True Martial World.

Most sections could comfortably slip into another similar story with only name changes.

For a new reader this novel may reach 4 Star, but for anyone who's read a lot of this genre (and seen it done better... more>> elsewhere) it's a 3 Star. The biggest problem is it lacks tension, by the time MC confronts people in a fight he's strong enough that it's pretty easy. The truly powerful people don't get involved due to 'face' and so he doesn't really have a challenge.

The one big sect he's going to face off with at some point is pretty passive. It's introduced early, but never seemed that menacing since there's no time limit on when they start 'world domination'. Frankly, they'll start moving exactly when the MC reaches the required level of power/connections that he can go back and deal with them, so I'm not looking forward to that arc. Currently it's worth a read, and may even pick up and become more interesting when the story ascends to a more powerful continent than the one he grew up in. <<less

The general plot line is the same as others, but everything was nicely done.

Spoiler

The MC had a good personality. He was not pe*verted, crazy, super c*cky, or rash. He didn't make me want to smack my head every time he spoke (unlike some other MCs). Most of the time he was calm, thinks before acting, and was actually really smart.

One of the best thing about him is that he is actually good to those who treated him well and makes sure to return back favors and even takes extra steps to protect them.

His pet is really cute too.

As the translator suggests, the story starts out slow, but gets really good around 200 chapters. The plot line moves at a good pace, and as a bonus the ending arc is not tr*sh. The ending arc is slowly revealed long before and ends when it should end without going bat crazy. The last 15 chapters or so are really cute and a nice finishing touch to the story.

The MC Zhao Feng gets an OP eye ability (like most xianxia, they get something op, like a super strong teacher). What's interesting is how the well made plot goes on and how the MC responds to situations.

Pros:
- Superb quality translations
- Not an excessive amount of plot armor (a bit more than I'd like but that's xianxia usually..).
- Barely any of filler repeat descriptions some Chinese authors do to meet the character quota for a chapter.
- MC is likeable
- Interesting world/universe and abilities. Logical, with... more>> skills that have consequence (not just a spam of convenient for the scenario skills to solve one problem after another).
- Translator talks about how insane the plot gets in the future, that there will be twists that are not expected... Hype!!

Cons:
- If you don't like xianxia novels that have a sizeable amount of plot armor, this novel is not for you.
- Enemies are on the s*upid side so far.
- Not close to being as comedic as I would like it to be comparatively to other xianxia novels.
- Female interests' character are usually not very developed.

Although this novel so far isn't as good as Er Gen's A Thought Through Eternity, Transcending the Nine Heavens, Realm in the Firmament, I Shall Seal the Heavens, Otherworldly Monarch, and some others on my 10/10 must-read xianxia novel recommendation list (well thought out character/world/interactions), I still think this novel deserves a 7 to 8 out of 10 on if I would recommend this to others. <<less

I rarely write reviews for things unless prompted, and this one is no different. This read is pretty entertaining and follows a typical xuanhuan (I think that's the right term) pattern, but I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. I mainly read for the story, so I can enjoy pretty much anything as long as the ideas aren't completely stolen from somewhere else. So far releases have been steady, and the story is fun, which combined is enough to put it on my list of "check it every day... more>> to see if it's updated" novels. <<less

It's a fun binge read, but there isn't much depth to this one. The cultivation is glossed over and a lot of things in the story is simply left unpolished. The combat system is terrible as well. However it still was enjoyable to binge, so if you've got nothing better to do and you want that Xianxia fix, go give this a try.

Edit: I'm coming back to give this a 4/5 rating, a bump up from the original 3/5. I still believe that the novel lacks in all the areas... more>> I mentioned above, but the storytelling and progression of the main character is quite compelling after all so even though there is a lack of depth and much is glossed over as a consequence, the trip is an enjoyable one. <<less

This is a great novel. MC is calm and intelligent due to his bloodline powers. Really awesome after 170or200 chp. Must read novel for Itachi fans. Reason you will like it is because:

1. Great world building. Various Awesome characters like MC's familiar Little Thief, Xu Wuheng (Mysterious Rival), Various Bloodline powers, Great Antagonist Association.

2. MC always thinks strategically in fights and lots of plot twist in fights, Feels like watching itachi fights.

3. MC also has all of typical sharingan attacks like super vision, amaterasu (Lightning flame god's eye), tsukiyomi (Eye... more>> of Illusion, Eye of heart), susano (Domain of Ice king) and now Kamui (Spacial Movement, Void Space Eye slash) also Chidori (Purple Lightning wind slash) and many soul attacks.

I originally wasn't going to write any review but when I saw that review by that random guy it thought it was a little over the top to give it one star review and refer to it as some janitor tr*sh. On the other end of the spectrum as someone that completed this novel I have agree with the review that our friend

8Psycho said --->

"Is generic xianxia; written by schoolboy; strength ranking is a mess; overflowing wishfulfilment. Novel Essence in two sentences: Merging with his Left eye was slowly changing... more>> his bloodline, he was calm, composed and confident much more than ordinary men. Under unprecedented pressure, left eye was stimulated."

I did enjoy this novel in a sense that it kept me interested till the end, almost gave it 4 stars simply because well it was kinda cool with the whole eye power thing as its the first one that really focused on the powers the eyes had usually things like this is forgotten later on, matter a fact that was what got me interested in the first place. Everyone of these stories have there turning point for the MC, some get some magical item with some old guy in it, some get some talismon that help them to train and cultivate. Our MC got a sharigan (is that how its spelt? I forgot naruto fans dont attack me). MC was basically ur average youth dreaming to cultivate to help his parent live a better life, suddenly he gets hit by lightning in the eye or something while he hears some voice speaking some random sh*t in his ear. Keep in mind we don't even know even at the end why he was chosen to get this eye but oh well lets just not even explain that said the author -_-. LETS Get to our Review.

    • Story: at the beginning it's full of ur generic xianxia instances, arrogant genius's encounters and so on and even some heaven defying luck like finding a cave with resources when he is in desperate need of a breakthrough. So the story starts of kinda plain but it naturally get better as you go on when he starts to unlock the potential of his eye. Most of the story will get centered around this heaven defying plot armor but u will also find out that there are 8 similar eyes to him and they belong to 8 different clans. If I remember correctly...
      Spoiler

Eye of death, eye of life, eye of illusion?... yeah I forgot some stuff but hey u have other eyes

      [collapse]

As they story goes you start to realize this guy's eye really can copy everything including the special and unique techniques of these eyes not to mention everything else. Then there is also the matter of bloodline that comes into play if I remember correctly there are two type of bloodline the ancient one (cant remember the name) and the Imperial (Not so OP as the ancient but hey it a bloodline). Bloodline all have special characteristics and powers but the MC has none of these at the start so he really is looked down on a bit through the novel because of this. The actual plot of the story doesn't come until way later on in the story (which has to do with the identity of his eye and the 8 others and some kinda madaara sub plot except the antagonist just want to go to what he believes is a higher realm so he plans for centuries only to get sh*t on by our MC who has this 9th eye no ones ever heard of.) But the story before that is decent and entertaining because of all the twist and turns that comes along with it.
    • Romance: Huh? Where? So there are two woman who the MC has a thing with in this entire novel. Before I even describe this I just want to say this author should not write romance if he knows he can't write it. Just give up plz this why I couldn't give it a 4 or 5 star. First woman you meet rather early as through there interactions they get slightly close like family, through numerous interactions there relationship really develops like a genuine friendship but slightly competitive mostly on the girl's side as she tries to surpass our MC. They separate for a year or 2 I think (time wise not sure) but meets back up when they see each other at a competition between their sects. Then once again at another competition by this time though she starts to have a little feeling towards our MC but due to some situation they separate temporarily. The other girl he meets due to forced circumstances

      Spoiler

MC is task with looking for a certain woman as his current sect in a dire situation which he isn't strong enough to do anything about so his master sends him away to take refuge under a woman he knew. But other from a name he doesn't know anything about this woman. When he goes to the city he goes under the status of a beast tamer which is a highly respected occupation next to the fact that the MC is really young he is looked at as a genius (This guy has no taming skill its his sharingan genjutsu doing that work). The city lord who he is introduced to has a daughter who has the name of the woman he is looking for, naturally the MC is looking for an opportunity to speak to her but 'coincidentally' she is hosting GET A WIFE contest where anyone that's in the younger generation who can beat her will be able to take her as a wife. The city lord who see's the MC being a genius pretty much throw him into the ring against his will to fight his treasured daughter. Naturally MC wins but he truly has no feelings for her but that doesn't stop her from developing feelings for him even though the MC pays absolutely no attention to her. One thing lead to another and the MC decides he's going to leave this city and her behind but while he is escaping the city lord send his top warriors and so on after him who he manages to sh*t on of course but as he is about to successfully escape he encounters her waiting on him. He is in an awkward situation but he knows that he truly hurt her in his decision to leave so he promises her that when he is finished the things he needs to do he will come back for her.

      [collapse]
Towards the end both girls accept that he loves them both, out of no where they just magically compromise with each other as the faith of the world rest on the MC's shoulders. Lets not mention the last chapters where the author pull some more bullsh*t but yeah.
    • Character Development: One word and that's average. Several people though who I thought he had forgotten were also shown later on though which is pretty good I guess.
      Spoiler

Throughout the novel one encounter and arc I enjoyed was his encounter with Death who pretty much chased him down for a year or two. (Person like him with the special Eye called Eye of Death)

      [collapse]
    • The Eye: This sh*t really triggered me sometimes was how the author said that because of his fusion with the eye caused him to view a lot of things differently such as feelings of people (Love). At least just tell us the truth that you're not good at writing romance.
    • Ending: Was the biggest twist in twisting history and I ate my fair share of twisted donuts but that one came out of the blue and was just mind blowing and f*cking amazing. The ending also left room to write for another novel but that novel wouldn't amount to much maybe like 20-40 chapters or something. I don't want to explain too much or it would be too much of a spoiler.
Yeah so 3/5 final review its a decent read don't throw it under the bus because of the faulty start the twist's it has makes it interesting. <<less

An honest review by your average reader.

It's a mediocre novel. I don't know why it's rated so high. Descriptions of things especially the fighting are terrible.

Fight scenes goes as follows: [Insert name] uses [movement/offensive skill]. [Insert name rival] counters by using [defensive/offensive skill]. That's literally it. Sometimes the author will say they fight for 10 moves. But how? Dunno, just 10 moves. Or even sometimes the author will use "Ding. Deng. Tok. Bang." and the fight is over, I'm not even joking.

Plot: Main character joins sect/new master/city/ whatever it doesn't... more>> matter. There will be a 10 rank system. With usually Rank 1 guy as the main antagonist. MC will beat them all, become number 1 and then move on to a new place and rinse and repeat. SO GENERIC.

A good novel with good fight scenes would be something like World of Cultivation. That's my metric on measuring if something is good now. <<less

It's decent novel that you can pass the time. Nothing special, but entertaining and fast paced. There are some bits where he has too much luck, and it felt kind of forced. I don't mind lucky MC's, but they have to sell it really well. The eye power and the cultivations dosn't seem tohave any drawbacks, which is kinda lame. It makes everything sound to easy, which I don't like. However, I still enjoyed this and it's fast paced, and dosn't have alot of fillers like some other novels.

How can this be rated over 4? MC personality is inconsistent, the conversation and monologue is braindead and awkward, the story and battle is very bland and boring, almost all stranger hate and mock MC at first even though there is no reason, there is nothing exciting or something to look forward to. This is very very bad, even by the standard of CN cultivation novel which is full of cliche. If you want, try to read until chapter 10, if you hate it than that's it. There is no... more>> improvement at all, at least until c50.

Edit : Someone told me why the rating are high. Apparently in the early days of translation, the translator asks for 5 star rating in NU in exchange for bonus chapter or faster translation. If that's true, which I believe it is, it explain why there are freaking lot of 5 star rating for this novel. <<less

If the skeleton of a web novel could take a dump this is the dump it would take. Let me explain, this novel here is the bare minimum of what could be described as a novel. I could ramble on about what would motivate a person to write what amounts to the barest outline of a novel and pass it off along with finished works, but I won't. You can probably all imagine plenty of reasons for someone to do this. This novel is basically a bunch of tropes introduced... more>> in a formula and repeated throughout until the author's fingers get tired or he lost consciousness. I despise pretty much all of these tropes, but I will list some of the biggest stinkers of the bunch.

  1. A single secret divine artifact that can solve nearly all problems, but most importantly for this novel, allows the MC to get stronger with zero effort or minimal effort. In other words, the MC is a lazy bastard that acts like a genius.
  2. Through no effort of his own the MC gets everything he needs delivered to him courtesy of the author. If the MC is tripped by a young master he is guaranteed to fall on a special god quality fruit that he needed.
  3. The novel just jumps between young master fights and tournaments constantly. Dialogue is non existent and is either a peanut gallery or a side character saying "you suck hard. I'll kill you" or "wow, I'd like to hump your awesome face."
  4. There is no back story. There is no off time between events. The story just flickers from one scene to the next, which makes the pacing nearly unbearably bad.
  5. This is the most annoying issue to me: the fights. The story is basically 50% fights. Ironically, no fight is ever described at all. No actual hitting, punching, striking, shooting. Nothing. Imagine two people playing Wizards of the Coast or Yu-gi-oh. The characters just yell out a move. You don't even know what the move does. No description at all. It's about as exciting as watching someone else play a card game with s*upid card names like 'super dragon claw spank'. What really drives me insane is that the author has clearly never been involved in a fight, seen a fight, or heard about a real fight ever in his entire life. The only descriptions of an actual action that ever occur are when we are told that his punches hit punches or punches hit weapons or energy hit weapons. The point of an attack should be to hit a person not their weapon. Can you imagine a boxer that did nothing but punch the punches of his opponent. Not only would he lose badly, but his fists would be broken. As if that weren't asinine enough. When the MC punches someone's fist or sword hard enough, magically they begin to vomit blood as if on cue.
  6. The other half of the novel goes something like this: need blood herb, ate blood herb, cultivated in roof for five days. Did that get your blood boiling in excitement? Thought not.
Outside of tropes no logical character development or plot development occurs whatsoever. As an example, at one point the MC and his friend willingly join a group that dumps them into a tent-city slum in a dirt field, tells them to eat literal garbage, provides no water, provides no weapons or supplies, and then tells them to fight and die for them to get cheap crap that he could easily get access to before he joined. The MC is like "Hell yeah. I like to be treated like a s*ave, conscripted into an army, and given tr*sh to eat, and rewards I already had. In fact, I think I might be loyal for life because your "army" tried to r*pe my friend and kill me for objecting." Is there a universe where someone would be excited to eat someone's tr*sh and risk their life and then show loyalty? No there is not.

If you want to read something of similar quality, but don't want to rage quit out of frustration I suggest you find your favorite Xianxia novel, remove all descriptions, back story, and flavor text. Then shuffle all the remainder around randomly. You will then have an idea of the creative effort required to write this pile of crap. <<less

Consistently bad. MC gets underestimated. MC finds precious cultivating ingredient or treasure. MC powers up. MC beats all the young masters. MC moves on to a new area. I sh*t you not, every arc boils down to those 5 things.

Now, if you like MCs that just face-roll through enemies who were dropped on the head when they were a fetus, then this is the Novel for you!

The novel is written in the style of a diary" Zhao Feng cultivated this, Zhao Feng ate that" Story is cyclical, MC Character progression ends when he merges with the God's eye, all the other characters (Arrogant Chad, h**ny Stacy, Surprised Tom, Bottom-bit*h Henry, "I will be back" Arnold) are boring, one-dimensional, and basically appear under a different name in every arc. Recurring characters are the same but get to keep their names.

just caught up to the latest chapter, and I should say the story was mediocre at best.

It's mainly about tournament after tournament, and the adventures as well as the battle were disappointing. Too many repeated sentences, too many b*tching unnecessarily, and in the end everything was settled by the eye.

Romance was put there as a mere placeholder without any real meaning.

The power-leveling approach was considerably realistic (not too abrupt), but too convenient at times.
